ANQUELA LEAVES DEPOR

08 Oct 2019
As it was expected, Juan Antonio Anquela was fired after Deportivo were unable to beat UD Almeria. He trained the team in the morning and was fired in the afternoon.

It took some hours, but Juan Antonio Anquela is no longer the coach of Deportivo. The Galician outfit has spent nine matchdays without winning and it was clear that the game with UD Almeria was going to be his last if the team was failing in adding the three points.

The impression left by the team improved, but it was unable to add the three points. His exit looked imminent, though it had to wait until Monday’s afternoon as the board was having their normal midweek meeting. Actually, the Andalusian coach trained the team in the morning.

Anquela leaves Depor after a poor mark of only one victory, five draws and four defeats. His team never showed a pattern and faced big defensive problems and an alarming lack of understanding in the output of the ball.

The exit of Anquela after only ten matchdays  means to be the quickest coach axed with Deportivo competing at Segunda since Eusebio Rios (season 1987/88). In that campaign the Blanquiazul outfit eluded the demotion only after having other two coaches (Rodriguez Vaz and Arsenio Iglesias) and only by the goal difference rule.
