NOTES FROM THE GAME VS UD ALMERIA

08 Oct 2019
Depor left the impression of an improvement, but this had to do more with the performance of the rival. The team has now spent nine games without winning.

The five notes from the game Vs. UD Almeria:

1- Improvement or poor rival? It was the best game of Deportivo on the season, in all the previous meetings Depor showed two different faces in the same game, but now there was a consistency throughout the ninety minutes. But what happens is that it also depends on the rival, and UD Almeria was a real disappointment. The current second place visited the Riazor with high expectations and never put a high pressure and preferred to wait and defend at their own third. For this reason, Depor were always feeling comfortable and never felt chocked in the output of the ball.

2- The errors in the output of the ball continued: The bad news from the game is that Deportivo didn’t improve in the output of the ball, because the errors continued, the only thing that changed in that these errors weren’t expensive as in past games. Just in the second half, there were four bad passes in the output of the ball that cost a counterattack by UD Almeria, each one with a different actor. Nolaskoain, Álex and Gaku failed a key pass in a frame of five minutes, and at the end of the meeting a bad pass by Bóveda almost cost a goal in the last dangerous attack by the visiting side.

3- Still waiting for Longo A lot was expected when the signing of Samuele Longo was announced, but the Italian has been a big disappointment so far. He made his second appearance as a starter and only completed six passes in this game, he was replaced by Christian Santos in the second half.

4- Nolaskoain played as a centre-back: The main adjustment made by Anquela for the game was to see Peru Nolaskoain acting as a centre-back. Lampropoulos was benched and the Basque player looked fine despite an error that almost lead to a goal. He was the player with more passes on the pitch (80) and had a decent 91% passing ratio. Perhaps he could be the solution to the endless problems in the output of the ball.

5- Nine games without a victory Depor already tied last season’s negative streak of nine straight games without a victory. The streak cost the job to Natxo González and now it’s close to cause the exit of Anquela. Both are the longest winless streaks at Segunda since the campaign 1987/88 (17).
