THINKING OF MÁLAGA CF

19 Oct 2019
Luis César recovers men and wants to change the impression facing another team in crisis. Málaga CF only have 17 players at the first team, and will miss two for the game at the Riazor.

Very important game for Deportivo as the Galicians host Málaga CF (Riazor, Sunday, 16h00 CET). The last defeat at UD Las Palmas left the team at the bottom of the standings and with a streak of ten matchdays without winning. New coach Luis César Sampedro had little time to correct things and neither had enough men to build up a roster.

For that reason the defeat wasn’t a surprise, but the poor impression left in the game isn’t helping to clear the criticism towards the club. Now Luis César has more time and more players to work, so the fans wait for a real change and better results.

First to all, the coach recovers his international players: Javi Montero (U21 Spain), Víctor Mollejo (U19 Spain), Vassilios Lampropoulos (Greece) and Gaku Shibasaki (Japan). Of this list, only Gaku played the full 90 minutes in his two international games.

Then Luis César recovers two of the injury players: Mamadou Koné and Luis Ruiz. The Ivorian attacker has been out for a month due to an ankle sprain, while the left-back has missed three games due to an adductor muscle problem.

Both joined the trainings this week and will be available for Sunday’s game. Left-back Salva Ruiz was dragging a hamstring problem from the game at UD Las Palmas, but he will also be available. Therefore, the only players that will miss the game are Michele Somma (knee sprain) and David Simón (thigh).

At Málaga CF, the Andalusians are living a bigger crisis than Deportivo, because they don’t only have a streak of bad results, but also financial problems. The club wasn’t able to fit its structure to the salary cap system, and was punished only allowing them to inscribe 17 players at the first team. It’s even feared that they won’t be able to compete in the second round if the owners don’t find a way to capitalize the club.

Last weekend coach Víctor Sánchez del Amo barely had 11 men for the visit to Cádiz CF due to the players called to their national teams. Now the situation has improved and he will have 15 men available. Midfielder Dani Pacheco seems to be recovered from a muscle problem, therefore the only two casualties for injury reasons are left-back Juankar (muscle) and centre-back Luis Muñoz (ankle sprain).
