PREVIEW: DEPORTIVO – ELCHE CF (LIGA)

10 Nov 2019
Luis César continues to search for the proper system, Somma is back, but the coach has problems at the right side of the defence. Elche CF are trying to win back-to-back games and enter the race for promotion.

Referee: Isidro Díaz de Mera Escuderos
VAR Official: Santiago Varón Aceitón
Kick-off: 12h00 CET (Riazor)

STATISTICS: A DANGEROUS VISITOR
Elche CF are at mid-table, but it’s a dangerous team playing on the road; actually, they are one of the six teams that have added more points away than at their stadium, the Martínez Valero. They have added ten points in seven visits, which is the sixth best record in the league only below Cádiz CF (15), AD Alcorcón (13), Fuenlabrada CF (12), Albacete Balompié (12) and UD Almería (11).

Meanwhile, Deportivo remain to be the bottom club and big part of this is for its poor record at the Riazor. The Galicians have only added six points after six home meetings, a mark only above Extremadura UD (five points in seven home games).

Deportivo have won eight of the last eleven liga games against Elche CF playing at the Riazor, including the last five. Actually, the Valencians have only scored three goals in their last ten visits to A Coruña ending scoreless in six opportunities.

DEPORTIVO: ROUNDING THE SYSTEM
Coach Luis César Sampedro is still searching for a system that suits his Deportivo. A fortnight ago he decided to remove Gaku Shibasaki from the starting formation and locate Ager Aketxe on the wing, it didn’t work despite the team rescued a point from Racing Santander.

And last week the “experiment” was to remove Aketxe and use a more natural 4-4-2, it neither worked despite the team added a new point, this time at Fuenlabrada CF. Now the Galician coach is ready to go back and the plan is to reintroduce Aketxe and play with wingers performing on their natural position, thus Borja Valle was tested on the right flank and Víctor Mollejo on the left. It’s a new chapter of a coach battling against time in order to resurrect a team living a nightmare season.

Team news: Bóveda is suspended and with David Simón injured, Luis César will improvise and Borja Galán will cover the right side in defence. The good news is that centre-back Michelle Somma is finally back after surpassing a knee sprain that kept him at bay since August. So, Simón and Luis Ruiz are the only players that remain at the injury room. Striker Beto da Silva is on the roster after been left out of the last three games, while the coach picked Mujaid from Fabril in order to fill the gaps in defence (he was also tested on Saturday at the right side in defence).

Man to watch: Striker Mamadou Koné. The Ivorian attacker remains to be the only player up front that’s contributing things, he is coming from scoring the goal in the visit to Fuenlabrada CF and Depor will need him in order to break the current winless streak.

Picked players: (20) Dani Giménez, Koke Vegas (goalkeepers); Vassilios Lampropoulos, Javi Montero, Michelle Somma, Mujaid Sadick, Salva Ruiz (defenders); Álex Bergantiños, Peru Nolaskoain, Vicente Gómez, Gaku Shibasaki, Borja Galán, Ager Aketxe, Víctor Mollejo, Saša Jovanović (midfielders); Christian Santos, Mamadou Koné, Beto da Silva, Borja Valle & Samuele Longo (attackers)

Predicted lineup: (4-2-3-1) Dani Giménez – Borja Galán, Lampropoulos, Montero, Salva Ruiz –Nolaskoain, Álex Bergantiños – Borja Valle, Aketxe, Mollejo - Koné.

ELCHE CF: FINDING THE WAY
This Valencian club tried to make an effort during the summer and enter into the race for the playoffs, their start to the season isn’t bad, but neither good enough to be among the first places. What they have lacked is to chain straight victories as they have been passing of great results to disappointments at home, like defeating Girona FC at their stadium (0-2, October), only to lose at home the following week hosting Sporting Gijón (0-1). Now they have the opportunity to win back to back games after dispatching CD Mirandés (4-2).

Team news: Coach José Rojo ‘Pacheta’ has the casualties of midfielders, Ramón Folch (thigh) and Nuke Mfulu (adductor), so he travelled to A Coruña with the 18 players that were available at the first team.

Man to watch: Winger Fidel Chaves. The Andalusian veteran has been coming in and out of the starting lineups during this season, but he is coming from scoring a hat-trick against CD Mirandés, and will cover the left wing, which means he will have to face the right side of Depor’s defence, sector that won’t have a natural occupant for the casualties of Bóveda and David Simón.

Picked players: (18) Édgar Badía, Miguel San Román (goalkeepers); Sergio Blázquez, ‘Tekio’, Andoni López, Gonzalo Verdú, Dani Calvo, Danilo Ortiz, Juan Cruz, Óscar Gil (defenders); Manuel Sánchez, Gonzalo Villar, Iván Sánchez, Fidel Chaves, Josan Ferrández (midfielders); Nino, Yacine Qasmi, Pere Milla & Claudio Medina (attackers).

Predicted lineup: (4-4-2) Edgard Badía – Óscar Gil, Gonzalo Verdú, Dani Calvo, Andoni López – Iván Sánchez, Manuel Sánchez, Gonzalo Villar, Fidel – Nino, Yacine Qasmi.
