THINKING OF EXTREMADURA UD

15 Nov 2019
Luis César only has 17 men available for Saturday’s game, Mujaid could continue performing as a right-back. Somma is back and could play at the centre of the defence.

The crisis at Deportivo continues, and it isn’t bigger only because the other teams with relegation problems are also losing and therefore the salvation remains four points away, and one of those teams is the next rival as Depor visit Extremadura UD (Saturday, 16h00 CET).

And coach Luis César Sampedro is having new defensive problems, David Simón was operated on Tuesday from a groin injury and will stay out until 2020, and now they are problems at the centre of the defence, because Vassilios Lampropoulos is concentrated with Greece, while Javi Montero is suspended after picking a fifth yellow card (he was also picked on Wednesday to U21 Spain in order to cover a late injury case).

Therefore, the only centre-back available is Michelle Somma, who is returning from a knee sprain that kept him at bay since September. The Italian has been tested as a possible starter, but it’s not certain if he could last for the full 90 minutes.

There are more casualties affecting the team; Gaku Shibasaki is concentrated with Japan; while on Thursday the club reported that Saša Jovanović sustained a grade I muscle injury on his right leg. He will miss Saturday's game.

The good news Luis Ruiz is back from an adductor injury. But the coach will only had 17 men available for the meeting, and in the end the coach decided to pick two lads from Fabril. The roster was released on Thursday since the team is traveling early in the morning on Friday and will train in Extremadura in the afternoon.

The lads picked from Fabril are David Sánchez and Mujaid Sadick, the Fabril’s latter has been tested at the right-back position as Bóveda will probably be moved in order to fill one of the gaps at the centre.

Extremadura UD are living a second season at Segunda, and it’s currently in relegation after been unable to keep stable results. The team was unable to win within the first seven matchdays, then chained three straight wins, only to end losing the last four games. Coach Manu Mosquera is still having the support of the fans and the president of the club, but that won’t last if the defeats continue to arrive.

Their main casualty for the game is centre-back Fran Cruz, who has been out for the past two games due a muscle injury. Jose Antonio Pardo will continue to play alongside Borja Granero at the centre of the defence.

Another notable casualty is striker Álex López, he was recently operated from a knee injury. He has been important for the coach after making 12 appearances, but only scored once. Striker Rafael Mujica should be back after surpassing a muscle problem, but he has only played 46 minutes this season distributed in three games.
