THINKING OF CD LUGO

30 Nov 2019
One more opportunity to break the winless streak at Depor, Luis César will keep the 4-3-3 draw that left good feelings against AD Alcorcón.

Deportivo remain in the same situation: winless since matchday 01 and trapped at the bottom of the standings at Segunda División. But something seems to have changed after the goalless draw against AD Alcorcón. At least it’s what the players say. Because they assure that, for the first time in a while, they felt in control of the situation after coach Luis César Sampedro switched the draw into a 4-3-3.

They argue that the team felt fine and empowered, and the consequence was to clinch the first clean sheet since the arrival of the new coach. Now they have to reaffirm their words as Depor face the Galician derby visiting CD Lugo (Anxo Carro, Sunday, 18h00 CET).

It’s expected that Luis César will keep playing with the same scheme, and he will have the same three casualties from last game: Salva Ruiz (hamstring), David Simón (groin) and Saša Jovanović (muscle), the latter already started to work with the group, but should receive the medical okay on next week.

The draw might be the same, but the names at the lineup could be different. Throughout the week the coach has tested some variations, like the introduction of Ager Aketxe as one of the three attackers.

CD Lugo arrive to the meeting in a good moment; they added seven of nine possible points and later fell visiting leaders Cádiz CF in a game in which the Andalusians had to push until the end in order to win the meeting (2-1).

Now coach Eloy Jiménez is only having one casualty at the team for the derby. And it’s Gerard Valentín. The right-back defender suffered a muscle injury in the game with Rayo Vallecano (November 3) and he will return until January. He was going to miss the game anyway as Depor’s is his parent club.

There’s another injury case at the team: ex-Fabril Hugo Rama, but that’s a situation coming from last season. The midfielder was loaned at CD Mirandés and suffered a knee injury in June, and he will be back until 2020. Then midfielder Borja Domínguez and right-back Roberto Canella missed the last game due to knocks, but they should be available for Sunday.
