Another goalless draw and Depor tied its worst mark without winning. Mollejo had four clear chances.

Coach Luis César Sampedro presented the 4-3-3 figure that he tested during the game. It was the same team that played against AD Alcorcón, with the novelty that Ager Aketxe was start claiming the spot of Samuele Longo.

Dani Giménez covered the goal, the right side in defence was for Mujaid Sadick, the left flank was for Luis Ruiz. The central positions were for Vassilios Lampropoulos and Michelle Somma. The trio at midfield was composed by Peru Nolaskoain, Álex Bergantiños and Vicente Gómez, and the trident in attack was for Mamadou Koné, Victor Mollejo and Aketxe.

At CD Lugo, coach Eloy Jiménez had several novelties. He presented a 4-4-2 figure, Edu Campabadal was benched in defence and the spot at the right side was for Serge Leuko. Meanwhile, French/Algerian Yanis Rahmani was a starter in attack joining Cristian Herrera and Manu Barreiro.

Deportivo looked fine in the first part though the game was boring. The match lacked excitement because both sides didn’t create too many opportunities. At least Depor had more and all of them (3) were for Víctor Mollejo, who was denied by the keeper.

CD Lugo started the game better, a distraction at the start was about to cost a goal. Manu Barreiro assisted Cristian Herrera at the edge of the area, then the attacker dribbled a rival and his shot was saved by Dani Giménez and later Barreiro missed the target in the rebound (3’). That was going to be the only clear chance for the locals in this half.

After this action the game became imprecise, with both sides having problems to connect straight passes, though CD Lugo were slightly better as at least they were having some arrivals. Worse was the situation at Depor as Los Blanquiazules were ineffective in offensive tasks.

But then the visiting side improved. The first chance of Deportivo in the game was a lateral free-kick of Aketxe that Mollejo headed on target and local goalie Ander Cantero made the save (22’). The visiting side had improved at this point and the locals were locked at their side of the pitch.

Depor’s second approximation was a pass of Peru Nolaskoain that Aketxe collected to end hitting the net by the outside (31’). Five minutes later Aketxe was firing from the edge of the area, but his attempt went out.

Then Mollejo had a double chance; first he headed a cross from Mujaid and Canteromade the save (37’). One minute later the Atlético loanee released a low shot from the edge of the area and again the local keeper made the save. After these opportunities, CD Lugo started to have the ball and ended the half with a better percentage (54%), but it didn’t create any chance to score.

CD Lugo put more pressure in this half and Deportivo didn’t feel comfortable on the pitch. But there were no goals, because both sides continued to lack definition.  Mollejo had a new clear chance and he failed.

There was more intensity in the second part, but both sides continued to lack punch. At minute 50, Luis Ruiz made a long play on the left, and he ended the play with a shot that went wide. CD Lugo were putting a high pressure and Depor’s defence committed a couple of errors that the locals didn’t seize.

Mollejo had a new chance at minute 54, but he missed the target after been assisted by Peru Nolaskoain.  CD Lugo had its first chance in the half at minute 58, Mollejo failed to clear the ball and Yanis Rahmani connected a shot that was saved by Dani Giménez.

Depor were stuck in the definition of the plays and Luis César made the first substitution, Borja Valle replaced Aketxe. But Depor continued without feeling comfortable on the pitch, mainly because of the high pressure put by the locals.

The second substitution was the entry of Gaku Shibasaki for Vicente Gómez, then Beto da Silva replaced Mollejo. It neither changed the outcome of the game. The meeting ended with the feeling that any team having an opportunity in the last stretch was going to win.

And the game ended scoreless, because each side missed the chance they had. First Koné missed the target after been assisted by Gaku (78’), and the last chance for the locals was a header of José Carlos after a corner-kick of Pita (83’).

Another goalless draw for an ineffective Deportivo that was unable to seize its opportunities. The game was ugly, but Los Blanquiazules could have won if Mollejo had seized his chances. The winger had four of the five chances to score for his team.

Depor have now spent seventeen matchdays without winning and continue at the bottom, now with a bigger difference with salvation due to other results. The next game is the visit of Real Zaragoza to the Riazor (16h00 CET).
