Another busy day for Deportivo, just like the summer, because six operations were completed on deadline day. This time the club signed two players and released four in the las day of the winter window.

Busy day in A Coruña as it was predicted by the board of directors. The first operation on deadline day arrived early in the afternoon, and it was the announcement that Samuele Longo was returning to Inter Milan as both clubs had rescinded the loan contract. The striker was rumoured to be the most expensive player at the squad, but he never had an impact and only played 644 minutes distributed in 13 games. He left the club with only one goal scored, and it was in Copa against Illueca. Longo will play loaned at Serie B Venezia FC until the end of the season.

A couple of hours later it was announced that Vassilios Lampropoulos has been loaned to VfL Bochum 1848 until the end of the season. The Greek defender had poor performances at the start of the season. He was a fixed starter with both Anquela and Luis César, reason why he added 1,502 minutes in 17 league games, but then he was benched with the arrival of Fernando Vázquez.

Four hours before the closure of the market, the club announced the exit of Borja Galan, who has been loaned to Racing Santander until the end of the Segunda campaign. The 26-year-old winger returned to the club during the summer, but he never settled after only playing for 625 minutes distributed in 13 Segunda matches.

Then, two hours before the closure of the transfer window, the club announced the exit of goalkeeper Koke Vegas. He returns to Levante UD as a request from the Valencians after they transferred Oier Olazábal to RCD Espanyol. The announcement was delayed as the club was searching for a replacement. Vega only played in Copa del Rey, and he left a positive impression in the elimination against Unionistas.

And the last two operations were signings, and both arrived in the last hour of the market. First it was Aleksandar Jovanović. He is a 27-year-old Serbian keeper that barely played at the top tier in his country. It was until joining FK Palić in 2011 that he became a regular, though it was playing at the third tier in Serbia. Then he made the big jump and joined Aarhus GF in Denmark, and there he was a starter and even broke a mark in the Danish league after spending 423 minutes without conceding a goal.

That big performance allowed the jump to SD Huesca at Primera División for the season 2018/19. Werner was the starting goalie, but had bad performances and, by matchday 7, he was replaced by Jovanović, but neither the Serbian convinced too much. He played 12 games at Primera and never clinched a clean sheet, and his only win was in the final matchday hosting CD Leganés (2-1).  Then he was loaned back to Aarhus GF, in his second stage there he has only played 6 league games and 1 in Copa during the current campaign.

And the final signing was Keko Gontán: A 28-year-old right winger that’s consider a specialist attacking by the sides. He was product of Atletico Madrid’s academy that never settled at the Madrilenian club. He made his official debut with the club on 12 September 2009 and, at the time, he was the youngest player to debut with Atlético (17). From there he started a series of loan spells without too much luck, and in 2011 ended signing as a free agent for Calcio Catania in Italy.

Neither was a good move for him and he started a new series of loans without impressive results. Then, in the summer of 2014, he signed a 1+1 contract with Albacete Balompié and things changed, because he managed to score 6 goals in 33 Segunda appearances, it called the attention of Primera side SD Eibar, club that paid €4 million. Again, he made a solid season, this time at Primera, and scored 3 goals in 29 league games.

It was commented that Sevilla CF and some clubs in Germany wanted him, but he landed at Málaga CF in the summer of 2016 with the Andalusians paying €5 million. Over there a new low moment in his career started, because he didn’t match the expectations and, in his second season at the club, Málaga CF were demoted. Last season he played loaned at Real Valladolid and he had a decent campaign scoring twice in 27 Primera appearances.
