REVIEW: SOMOZAS 1 – FABRIL 0 (TERCERA)

10 Mar 2020
Ninth defeat on the season for a Fabril that remains without showing good football. The lads played a poor game and wasted the few opportunities had at the end of both halves.

BEFORE THE GAME
Coach Luisito was missing Mujaid Sadick and Álex Cobo, the latter was injured, for this reason Alberto Sánchez was the starting keeper, he was making his third appearance of the season.

THE MATCH
Fabril started pushing in attack and having a couple of arrivals within the first ten minutes through Iago Gandoy and Iago Novo, but the lads didn’t transform these actions into shots on target. The first approximation for the locals was a lateral free-kick of Luis Chacón that Guillem didn’t find inside the area (19’).

The visiting side continued dominating the ball possession, but this isn’t a good moment for Fabril, and the lads weren’t doing damage in attack. Iago Novo was pretty active, but the opportunities weren’t arriving. Meanwhile, the locals were only creating danger in set-pieces.

By the end of the first part, the game was more equal and it was also boring. Fabril didn’t have the same ball possession and was looking for long throws as the output of the ball wasn’t working. Neither UD Somozas did too much, the locals only attempted fast attacks that ended in nothing as they were losing the ball in offensive positions.

The best chance in the first half was for Fabril and came at minute 39, it was a cross from Iago Novo that left Mario Losada alone against local keeper Marcos Souto but the striker’s header went out.

Javi Sánchez was the first substitution as he replaced Iago Novo, the lads were having the ball possession again, but they continued with the same problems to create scoring opportunities. At minute 59, Villares scored a goal after collecting a short pass, but he was offside.

Then Pedro replaced Bourdal, it was an offensive move as Fabril started to play with two strikers, the draw was now 4-4-2 with Iago Parga performing as a centre-back. But what Lusito found was the goal of UD Somozas.

Juanma recovered the ball and assisted veteran David García ‘Mitogo’, who made the play entering the area and firing a shot saved by Alberto, and Somozas’ top-scorer Luis Niño was there to push the loose ball in.

Luisito made the last modification and Aarón Sánchez replaced Villares. But the side that was closer to score was UD Somozas. Substitute Eloy should have scored at minute 82, but his shot went out when he was alone against Alberto.

As it happened in the first part, the best of Fabril came within the last minutes. At minute 86, Losada fired from the edge of the area and it was saved by Marcos.  In the resulting corer-kick Gandoy met the woodwork firing from inside the box, and Javi Sánchez had the last opportunity, but his header after a corner-kick went out (45+1’).
