DEAL FOR THE RETURN TO TRAIN

21 Apr 2020
The Sports Council, La Liga and the LFP have reached an agreement on the return of football teams to the training pitches. No dates were given, but there’s an agreement to create a fund to help other sports.

On Sunday the Spanish Sports Council (CSD) announced that, after an 8-hour meeting, this entity together with La Liga (LFP) and the Spanish Federation (RFEF) have reached agreements related to football activities.  Nothing more was said that day, but on Monday the CSD released a second statement explaining some of the points in the agenda.

The first is that the three entities have reached an agreement on the return of football teams to the training pitches. No dates were given, it was only said that there’s a protocol and that the return will only happen if the health authorities give the green light to it.

Another point explained is that La Liga have accepted to create a €10 million fund that will be used to help other sports in need. Finally, the CSD reassured their compromise in supporting the candidacy of Spain for the World Cup in 2030.

Nothing more was said, but TVG advanced that the date for the return to training is mid-May, and that the players will be isolated and each member of the team -including coaches- will pass three COVID-19 tests and in June the games will start o be played behind closed doors.

This invites to think that the remaining of the season 2019/20 is going to be played even if this happens beyond June 30, but two days before this meeting the Minister of Labour, Yolanda Díaz, said in a public hearing that Spain is planning the return to work in two phases, and that the second phase includes recreational activities, sector in which football is located, and that this phase could return to a normal situation until Christmas.
