La Liga returns to an empty Riazor that will witness a Deportivo trying to have a new positive start with Fernando Vázquez. The Galicians will keep using the system with five defenders.

Deportivo return into competition with the goal of changing the tide at the moment of the suspension. When la liga stopped back in March, the Galicians had just suffered their worst defeat on the campaign (0-4 at UD Almeria) and that result meant a fourth straight game without winning. For that reason, Depor face this new phase in the tournament starting in relegation and with only eleven matchdays to be completed.

Meanwhile, Sporting Gijón were in an ascending line at the moment of the suspension and therefore will try to keep the pace. The Asturians won three of their last four games and are now only five points behind the promotion seats.

No matter the current trajectories, Deportivo are the second best team in the second round after adding 20 points in 10 games, only two less than Real Zaragoza. Sporting Gijón are fifth in this table after adding 16 points.

Coach Fernando Vázquez didn’t want to confirm if he will keep using the system with five defenders, but it’s what he has trained during the sessions of the week. The big question mark is Mujaid Sadick, the young centre-back is fit to play, but his lack of training during the past two weeks could push the coach to allow the debut of Abdoulaye Ba. Another novelty is that Claudio Beauvue has been tested as the partner of Sabin Merino in attack in a sort of 5-3-2 figure.

Team news: Víctor Mollejo is suspended with five yellow cards, while there are five players at the injury room: Jorge Valín, Somma, Hugo Vallejo, Jovanović and Aketxe. For the last stretch of the season it’s possible to pick 23 players per game, and Vázquez completed the roster with three players from the academy: keeper Alberto Sánchez, centre-back Juan Rodriguez and midfielder Iago Gandoy.

Man to watch: Centre-back Abdoulaye Ba. The Ivorian defender had a difficult adaptation to Depor. He landed in A Coruña as the replacement for Somma, but only days later the competition was halted due to the new coronavirus. He has barely interacted with the rest of the squad due to the lockdown and now goes directly into the starting eleven taking the spot of Mujaid.

Picked players: (23) Dani Giménez, Alberto (goalkeepers); Eneko Bóveda, David Simón, Javi Montero, Mujaid Sadick, Abdoulaye Ba, Juan Rodríguez, Luis Ruiz, Salva Ruiz (defenders); Álex Bergantiños, Vicente Gómez, Peru Nolaskoain, Uche Agbo, Gaku Shibasaki, Iago Gandoy, Emre Çolak, Keko Gontán (midfielders); Mamadou Koné, Borja Valle, Christian Santos, Claudio Beauvue & Sabin Merino (attackers)

Predicted lineup: (5-3-2) Dani Giménez – Bóveda, Nolaskoain, Ba, Montero, Salva Ruiz –Vicente Gómez, Gaku, Çolak – Beauvue, Sabin Merino.
Sporting Gijón spent the lockdown trying to figure it out its right place at Segunda División. In a general sense it has been a disappointing season for the Asturians, because they were unable to fulfill the expectations in the major part of the tournament. But things started to change with the arrival of Miroslav Djukić, who was able to win three of his four games and put the team closer to promotion. Now they want to clear the ghost of demotion and prove that they can aspire to the first six places.

Team news: There are only two casualties for the visit to the Riazor. Right-back Bogdan Milovanov is out due to a muscle problem, while winger Aitor García didn’t recover in time from a thigh problem.

Man to watch: Winger Murilo de Souza. The Portuguese attacker joined Sporting during the winter window and his contribution has been noticed. Since his participation the Asturians only lost once and in five appearances he has scored twice and also provided three assists.

Picked players: (23) Diego Mariño, Christian Joel (goalkeepers); Carlos Cordero, Marc Valiente, Borja López, Jean-Sylvain Babin, Hernán Santana, Francisco Molinero, Unai Medina (defenders); Carlos Carmona, Murilo de Souza, Nacho Méndez, Manu García, Javi Fuego, Cristian Salvador, Álvaro Traver, Pablo Pérez, Pedro Díaz, Alberto González ‘Berto’, José Gragera Gaspar Campos (midfielders); Álvaro Vázquez & Uroš Đurđević (attackers).

Predicted lineup: (4-2-3-1) Mariño – Medina, Molinero, Babin, Damián Pérez – Javi Fuego, Pedro Díaz – Murilo, Manu García, Carmona – Álvaro Vázquez.
