Four clubs are fighting for direct promotion, while the demotion still undecided, but with a couple of clubs already having their last call if they want to be saved.

Segunda División already reached matchday 35 and things are already reaching the pinnacle with the fight for the first places and to avoid relegation close to be decided. Four matchdays have been played after the resumption and only six teams haven’t lost yet: Cádiz CF, Rayo Vallecano, SD Ponferradina, UD Las Palmas, Deportivo and Real Oviedo.

The fight for direct promotion involves four clubs: Cádiz CF, Real Zaragoza, UD Almería and SD Huesca. The first two have been there for a while, but the chasers still have options.

Then the fight for the last two spots in the playoffs is also fierce. Girona FC and Elche CF are holding on, but only because Rayo Vallecano dropped points on Thursday. And there are other seven clubs that remain in the fight for the playoffs: SD Ponferradina, CD Mirandés, CD Tenerife, UD Las Palmas, Sporting Gijón, AD Alcorcón and CF Fuenlabrada.

The situation at the top of the standings:

place team points GF GA
1 Cádiz 62 46 33
2 Zaragoza 61 51 37
3 Almería 56 54 34
4 Huesca 55 46 38
5 Girona 52 42 36
6 Elche 50 44 37
7 Rayo 49 45 37
8 Ponferradina 48 41 37

The fight to avoid demotion is a thing of eight clubs, and two of them are already at the edge: Extremadura UD and Racing Santander. Both have only added a couple of draws after the return and are 7 and 10 points away from salvation. So, they need to react now if they want to reach the miracle.

The worst team since the return is CD Numancia, the only one that have lost the four games, actually they are carrying a negative streak of seven straight defeats and are already in relegation places. CD Lugo are there too after only adding one point in their last three games. Deportivo are undefeated after the break, but still close to the pit.

The situation at the bottom of the standings:

place team points GF GA
18 Albacete 40 27 40
19 Numancia 38 37 43
20 Lugo 38 31 45
21 Extremadura 33 33 48
22 Racing 30 34 45

The tournament will continue to have two matchdays per week. Deportivo host on Saturday SD Ponferradina and only three days later they have to make a long trip to CD Tenerife. There are crucial games for the permanence in this frame, like the visit of Albacete Balompié to Racing Santander or the visit of Real Oviedo to CD Numancia.
