Victory in the most demanding game on the pre-season. Beauvue scored a brace as Depor seized the numeric advantage within the final twenty minutes.

Penultimate friendly game on the pre-season and it should be understood as the most demanding game before starting the league. The rival, Pontevedra CF, is not only in the same subgroup than Depor, but it’s also a strong candidate to promotion. Coach Fernando Vázquez kept playing with a 4-4-2 scheme, now with Iago Gandoy acting on the left wing, while Erik Osede was debuting after only completing one training session with the team.

Pontevedra CF had a strong start and by minute 5, they already had two chances to score. The main one a combination between Rufo and Charles that was saved by Carlos Abad (3’). Depor started to put pressure at midfield and gained control of the actions, their first chance to score was a header of Álex after a corner-kick that was saved by local goalie Mario Fernández (14’).

Then the game became boring, because both sides were lacking goal opportunities. But Depor were looking solid, mainly for the positioning at midfield. Borges was doing a solid job. The main problem was once again the lack of ideas in attack. The next chance was for Pontevedra CF as Zabaleta connected a shot that was saved by Abad (34’).

For the second half, Vázquez made five changes with Carlos Beauvue, Lara, Mujaid, Salva Ruiz and Keko Gontán entering the field. The presence of Lara and especially Keko brought the ideas that Depor lacked in the first part.

Only five minutes after the kick-off, Salva Ruiz suffered a muscle injury and he was replaced by Jorge Valín. The ex-Fabril covered the right side of the defence, while Bóveda was at the left. In the meantime, Pontevedra CF had the first opportunity in the second part. It was a free-kick of Jorge Fernández that was saved by Carlos Abad (53’).

Depor’s first approximation in the second half was a shot of Nacho González that went wide (60’). Then both sides had a big chance to score. The more dangerous was for the locals in a new free-kick of Jorge Fernández that hit the post (66’), four minutes later, Nacho González sent out a good cross from Lara.

The game became heat with several fouls and protests, and Charles was sent off with two yellow cards saw in a frame of three minutes (71’). Curiously the cards had nothing to do with violence, because the first was for protesting and the second for blocking a long clearance from Abad.

More curios was to see the locals claiming the lead when they had one less player on the pitch. Depor lost the ball at midfield after a bad play by Borja Granero and the play ended with a drilling cross of substitute Oier that was connected by another substitute, Adrián Cruz.

Juan Rodríguez was the last substitution as he replaced Bóveda and Deportivo were able to comeback in the scoresheet thanks to a brace of Claudio Beauvue and the appearance of Keko Gontán. At minute 81, Keko was collecting a cross of Lara and was fouled inside the box.

The referee whistled the penalty and Beauvue equalized from the spot. Four minutes later Keko appeared again to throw a perfect free-kick at the left side, the ball went into the box and Beauvue anticipated the keeper with a downward header.
