The pre-season of Deportivo is over, with special circumstances and without major injuries, but with several players out of form ahead of the competition.

The atypical pre-season of Deportivo has ended. Six weeks under uncertainty and the effects of a pandemic. It started with the team without knowing in which league was going to compete during the season 2020/21, and also with the limitations of the COVID-19 protocol, including the fact that only one of the five friendly games played in the stage took place outside of Galicia.

Despite the circumstances, coach Fernando Vázquez already has the squad that will search for the promotion to Segunda División. The final week in the pre-season was more like the regular season, because the coach reduced the number of training sessions. The team only had four sessions during the week, partly because the team played two friendly games outside of A Coruña, and also because the coach wanted to reduce the intensity one week before the debut in liga.

The first team played two friendly games in the final week of the pre-season, both against other clubs at Segunda B. The first was a 1-2 victory visiting Pontevedra CF, and the second a 0-2 defeat against Real Valladolid B (Valladolid Promesas).

Another thing that made the pre-season atypical is that the transfer window was closed before the start of the regular campaign. The window was closed on Monday and with Deportivo inscribing twenty-one players, two of them came on deadline day: Derik Osede and Diego Rolan. Both men joined the team during the week, but Rolan is missing the paperwork and won’t be available for at least the first game.

The pre-season ended without major injury cases, but several players aren’t at the top due to different circumstances, mainly for arriving late to the stage or for been dealing with muscle issues in recent weeks. The lack of form of team is something admitted by Fernando Vázquez, who said on Friday that Depor are far from their potential.

Despite not having serious injury cases, three men will miss the first game against Salamanca CF due to muscle injuries: left-back Salva Ruiz, Fabril’s winger Javi Sanmartin and striker Rui Costa. Also the cases of Borja Galán and Nacho González, the winger didn’t play any minute on the pre-season and is unlikely that he will play in the first game, then the playmaker suffered a hamstring injury on Friday and is doubtful for next weekend.
