THINKING OF UNIONISTAS

31 Oct 2020
Problems for Fernando Vázquez, beyond the worries for the artificial turf, the game of the team isn’t convincing the general opinion, and there are new injuries.

Atypical week for Deportivo, on Sunday the Galicians visit Unionistas de Salamanca (16h00 CET), they play at the Reino de Sofia stadium, a pitch with artificial turf, and the coaching staff decided to modify the routine and complete two training sessions under the same conditions, and for that reason the team trained on Wednesday and Thursday at the O Monte field in San Tirso  (only a few kilometers away from Abegondo sporting city).

Right-back Jorge Valin talked on Thursday about the fact of been playing in artificial turf, “In the end, it’s true that it will affect, because it is an important surface change, but it is also true that the field there is of the latest generation, so within the difference that may exist, the bouncing of the ball and the conductions, you will notice less than you might. In pre-season we already played with Bergantiños on a field like this and I think these training sessions are good for us to get more on the field and I hope we face it without any problem.”

Beyond the concern with the surface, coach Fernando Vázquez should be worried with the performance of the team and the injuries. The last 0-0 draw at SD Compostela awoke the first criticism on the season, and the coach lost the two starters at the sides of the defence, Eneko Bóveda and Salva Ruiz, both men picked groin injuries and will miss the game.

The good news is that left-back Héctor Hernández is recovered from the groin injury that sidelined him from the first two matchdays. He is ready to debut, but the coach has tested other alternatives like relocating Erik Osede or José Lara in that position.

But there are more physical problems, during the week Nacho González picked a hamstring problem and Borja Granero a muscle injury. Nacho has skipped the last three sessions and will miss the game, while the centre-back is doubtful (he completed part of Friday’s training).

The absence of Nacho will force the coach to use a 4-4-2 formation, though he also tested a 4-1-4-1 figure with Uche Agbo as the only centre midfielder and with Iago Gandoy and Borja Galán performing behind Miku.

The rival is Unionistas de Salamanca CF, a club founded in 2013 and that’s living its third season at Segunda División B. They have had a good start after adding 4 of 6 possible points, but their goal is to stay at the third tier for next season.

Coach Hernán Pérez has no major problems for the game, only the doubt of midfielders Manuel Viana and Javi Navas, duo that missed the visit to Pontevedra CF after picking muscle injuries in the opening matchday.
