Deportivo visit Salamanca having one eye on the pitch and the other in the performance of the team. CD Guijuelo is trying to clean the doubts after the recent setbacks.

Referee: Manuel Ángel Pérez Hernández
Kick-off: 17h00 CET (Municipal Luis Ramos)

CD Guijuelo arrive to the meeting pointed as a strong team playing at their field with artificial grass. The true is that their numbers have been going up and down in recent years. For the Segunda B season 2018/19, they only lost once at the Municipal Luis Ramos (before named Municipal de Guijuelo).

But last season they had a bad start after losing four of the first six home games in the league, only to bounce back at the end of 2019 to end chaining eight games without home defeats and with six victories in those matches. Now they are trying to extend that rally as their four points on the current campaign occurred during their two home games played so far.

Meanwhile, Deportivo arrive to the meeting as one of the seven clubs in the league that have added 10 points after 4 matches. That’s the second-best mark in the whole league only behind UD Ibiza-Eivissa, club with a perfect mark of 12 points in 4 matches (Group 3B).

The performance of the team is still in doubt despite the sweet situation lived at the standings. For this game that criticism is not so evident as the conditions at the Municipal Luis Ramos stadium represent a concern. It’s not only the fact of been a pitch with artificial grass, but also the weather that the team is going to find. The pitch was almost frozen on Saturday (15 degrees Celsius are expected for the game) and the stadium is known for the strong wind.  So, a team that’s still trying to convince will also play against the elements.

That’s why it is not expected that coach Fernando Vázquez is going to switch the system. During the week he was testing the 4-4-2, but a more careful approach is expected and the most probably thing is that he will keep playing with a 4-5-1.

Team news: Jorge Valin didn’t pass the late test on Saturday and joins Derik Osede at the injury room. As the coach announced it on Friday, Diego Rolan wasn’t picked as Vázquez prefers to give him one more week working with the team. There are no Fabril’s players on the roster, Juan Rodriguez is injured and Adri Castro is isolated after been in contact with a positive COVID case.

Man to watch: Midfielder Uche Agbo. Fighting against the elements requires a strong player that can be decisive in individual duels and the aerial game, and the Nigerian player is that man at Deportivo.

Picked players: (18) Carlos Abad, Lucho García (goalkeepers); Eneko Bóveda, Mujaid, Borja Granero, Héctor Hernández, Salva Ruiz (defenders); Álex Bergantiños, Borges, Uche Agbo, Nacho González, Keko Gontán, Lara, Borja Galán, Gandoy (midfielders); Beauvue, Rui Costa & Miku (attackers).

Predicted lineup: (4-5-1) Carlos Abad – Bóveda, Mujaid, Borja Granero, Héctor Hernández – Keko, Uche Agbo, Nacho González, Borges, Lara – Beauvue.
CD Guijuelo is one of the clubs with the strongest roots at the third tier of Spanish Football, after all they have played at Segunda B in 16 of the last 17 editions. The problem is that the ambiguous signs left by the performance of the team, plus the unusual competition format, are menacing with pulling the team to the fourth tier in the best-case scenario.

The team is still undefeated at home and didn’t even concede a goal yet at the Municipal Luis Ramos, the problem is that their away performance has been quite bad. In their last game, the visit to SD Compostela, they were trashed 3-0, and during the break they had a new discrete participation after bene trashed 4-1 by CD Badajoz in a friendly game. For this reason, they are currently in the relegation playoff zone and coach Jacobo Montes has to improve a lot of things if his club wants to extend their presence in the third tier.

Team news: Left-back Răzvan Ochiroșii is out of the game after the scans detected a muscle problem sustained in the friendly with CD Badajoz.  Meanwhile, striker Manu Molina (toe fracture) and centre-back Dan Ojog (ankle sprain) are out as both continue with their recovery process.

Man to watch: Striker Antonio Manuel Pino. This veteran attacker has played his entire career at Segunda B (268 matches). This is his third stage at CD Guijuelo, club where he lived his best year during the campaign 2016/17, time when he scored 16 goals in 35 presentations. He arrived during the summer coming from Mérida AD and already had a good start after scoring twice in four matches.

Picked players: (19) Vincentas Šarkauskas, Carlos Molina (goalkeepers); Raúl Parra, Jonathan Martín, Josín Martínez, Andrés González, Kike Pina (defenders); Carlos Rubén, Mohamed Kamal, Cristóbal Gil, Fernando Pérez ‘Deco’, Sebastian Spahiu (midfielders); Abraham Pozo, Lolo Plá, Alain Eizmendi, Antonio Pino & Damián Zamorano (attackers).

Predicted lineup: (4-4-2) Sarkauskas - Parra, Jonathan Martín, Carlos Rubén, Pino - Cristóbal Gil, Deco, José Martínez, Pozo - Kike Pina, Zamorano.
