WHAT TO EXPECT FROM THE WINTER WINDOW

24 Dec 2020
The winter window is about to open, Depor only have a slot for a U-23 player, therefore any signing passing the age will require an exit.

The transfer window will be open on January 4 and Deportivo could be tempted to participate on it. The team is currently in a good position at the standings, but the needs are big taking in mind the performance of the players, which represents a big challenge for Richard Barral.

Without considering the goalkeepers, there’s a need in every line. Coach Fernando Vázquez only has three centre-backs, and with the physical problems of Derik Osede, it could push the club to sign another man for the centre. The sides are also in question, the coach has played with a line of five men within the last two games, and for that he has needed the figure a full-back, something that doesn’t match with the profiles of the current four side defenders at the team.

Midfield was considered to be the best covered position at the team, so it’s improbable a signing for this sector, though the performance of Borges and Uche Agbo hasn’t matched the expectations. But an exit could change the plans. There are also problems on the wings, José Lara is the only natural winger at the team and his level hasn’t matched the expectations.

One of the bigger needs at the team is the figure of a playmaker, and it could be of the main targets for the winter window. Right now, Vázquez isn’t using this figure, but it’s more a situation of not having a man for the position rather than a conviction for a system.

Then the situation in attack. Its not certain that Diego Rolán will continue at the team despite been the one with the best numbers, while the other three strikers have been a failure: Claudio Beauvue, Rui Costa and Miku.

The main problem with all these needs is that Richard Barral will have to find the way to release a player first. Currently Depor has 21 of the 22 spots covered, the only slot available is for a U-23 player. Therefore, if he tries to sign someone above that age, or if he attempts multiple signings, then the club will have to release players, something that it isn’t clear if the club will be able to afford.

About possible exits, apart from Rolan, the only man with offers is Uche Agbo. According to Radio Galega, the Nigerian midfielder has received an offer from one of the top-four leagues in Europe, though the source claims that the player prefers to stay with Deportivo.
