Midfielder ALFREDO will always be remembered for the historic goal he scored on 27 June 1995. That day Deportivo won their first ever trophy, the Copa del Rey, 89 years after the club's inception. It was Alfredo who beat Zubizarreta with a header just seconds after a restart of the original match, which was broken off on 24 June, 1995.

The short winger was signed by Deportivo after he had spent five seasons at Atlético de Madrid and played 105 Liga matches for them. He arrived in Galician together with Donato and the both of them would become part of what was called Superdepor: a team full of relatively unknown players who would surprise Spain within a short period of time.

As a player, Alfredo can be characterized as a typical hardworking one who never gives up fighting and running, comparable to Lionel Scaloni. At Deportivo he rarely claimed headlines and played a lot of matches coming on as a substitute. He nevertheless played 104 Liga matches for them and scored 3 goals in these appearances.

He made his debut in the Primera División on 2 September 1989 during the Valencia-Atlético encounter. Two years later he won a Copa del Rey for Atlético by scoring the winning goal against Mallorca. But at the end of 1997, at the age of 30, his time at Deportivo seemed over despite a contract running until June, 1999. He went to Sevilla together with his teammate Nando, another legendary player of the Superdepor era. But Alfredo would play just one more match in the Primera División. It took place on 21 November 1999... against Deportivo in Riazor. Alfredo never played for the Spanish national team.
