It's still not clear why Deportivo needed to buy Galician striker CHANGUI after winning the Liga in 2000. That summer Tristán and Pandiani were added to the squad while about €3,2 million was paid to Compostela to have Changui, 26 years of age at that time. But Changui never would play a single minute at Deportivo and in 2004 was close to leaving the club.

Fact remains that in 2002 he immediately was loaned out to Elche from the lower divisions before returning to Deportivo in 2001. As he never got the confidence of Irureta he was loaned out again, this time to Ejido.

For the season 2003-2004 the attacker was loaned once more, this time to island club Las Palmas. There he formed a partnership with Rubén, but that didn't prove to be a success. Still he returned to Deportivo to play six official matches during the season 2005/2006, the final one of Javier Irureta at the Galician club. These concerned two Champions League matches, but he finished the season on loan at Pontevedra and experienced relegation with them to the Segunda Division B despite scoring three goals.

Changui was loaned out to Greek side Xanthi for the season 2005/06, and that's when the strange things started. He was expelled from the squad at the end of the year 2005, but neither the Galician player or Xanthi notified Depor about the issue. Later reports arrived to the club's officials hands, this reports informed how the striker was spending the time in his home without taking care of his physical condition. The club opened a case against Changui, but the striker never attended to the meetings ordered by the club. In this way, Changui was fired during the year 2006. A bizarre case in the history of Deportivo.
