A new disastrous game by Deportivo. The Galicians barely created danger against a rival that only needed order and strength at the start of the game to add the three points.

Complicate trip for Deportivo, the club was expecting for a suspension due to the cold wave hitting Spain, but the Spanish Federation didn’t postpone the game. Besides, coach Fernando Vázquez only had 12 outfield players for the game, and in the end decided to play with a 5-2-3 figure that included two lads from Fabril: Manu Mosquera and Adri Castro.

Carlos Abad was the starting keeper, Jorge Valín covered the right side in defence, Salva Ruiz covered the left flank. Álex Bergantiños, Mujaid Sadick and Borja Granero covered the central positions. Yago Gandoy and Celso Borges played at midfield. The trident in attack was composed by Manu Mosquera, Adri Castro and Rui Costa.

At Zamora CF, coach Luis Movilla modified his normal 4-4-2 formation. Carlos Ramos was pulled to midfield, something that opened room for Adri Herrera and Dani Hernández for a 4-3-3 approach.

No matter the trip to Zamora was dangerous, the true is that the weather was fine during the game. There was a snowstorm at night, but the snow was removed from the pitch early in the morning and the only thing affecting both teams was the cold temperate (4 degrees Celsius).

Poor performance by Deportivo. Zamora CF had more intensity and their push within the first minutes was enough to score a goal. Later the Galicians were crippled in attack, the only danger created came after individual and isolated moves by Salva Ruiz and Rui Costa.

Zamora CF was pushing strong since the kick-off, by minute 5, the locals already had two corner-kicks in favor plus a clear chance for Guille Perero that was saved by Carlos Abad (2’). So, it wasn’t a surprise when the first goal arrived.

It was a cross from the right by Pereiro that Adri Herrera headed in the middle of Mujaidand Borja Granero to end crossing Carlos Abad. Depor tried to react after the goal, it started to step into the rival’s area, but it didn’t have clarity and later it was at the mercy of the local counterattack.

At the middle of the first half, Depor were better placed and therefore the local counterattack wasn’t looking as dangerous as it was in the first minutes, but the team continued to be plane in attack. After 25 minutes, the only offensive play to highlight was a move of Rui Costa that earned a corner-kick.

Suddenly, Depor had a clear chance to tie the game. Salva Ruiz made a long run on the left and ended releasing a low and strong shot that was barely saved by local keeper Martín Mapisa, Adri Castro collected the loose ball and his crossed attempt missed the target (27’).

Zamora CF were no longer having the same fluidity, but at least Los Rojiblancos had some arrivals, like the one of Carlos Ramos that ended with a drilling shot blocked by Carlos Abad (34’). Three minutes later a lateral free-kick was about to surprise Depor’s goalie, but he cleared the danger to corner-kick.

The other play to emphasize for Deportivo was a solo-play by Rui Costa on the left, he entered the area and attempted a low shot, but it was deflected as two defenders were standing in front of him (41’).

After some promising minutes, Depor returned to be a plane team that was trying to have the ball, but that later was unable to create a clear chance to score. It was also inexplicable the lack of modifications by the coach.

The second half started with Depor using a 4-2-3-1 system, and in only two minutes, they had already matched the number of arrivals from the first half. At minute 46, Rui Costa found a drilling ball at the left wing, but his cross was deflected. One minute later, Manu Mosquera missed the target firing from the edge of the area.

Depor were now in control of the game, but it was also leaving room for the counterattack, like the one that ended with the shot of Carlos Ramos that missed the target (54’). Six minutes later a new counterattack for the locals ended with a drilling shot of Guille Pereiro blocked by Abad.

The first modification was the entry of Nacho González for Manu Mosquera. This modification never worked, because the Uruguayan playmaker barely appeared. Actually, the team just turned to be worse after the change, because it was no longer stepping into the rival’s area.

Fernando Vázquez didn’t see that his team was falling and the only modification made was the entry of Álex Barba for Gandoy, who was having muscle issues. Later the coach told reporters that Keko wasn’t fit to play, but that shouldn’t be an excuse for his lack of actions.

The game faded away and the picture was clear: Deportivo were a dead team and no matter the ball possession, the rival always seemed closer to define the game with a second goal.

Another disastrous game by Deportivo. The team never knew how to attack the rival and the coach failed without making changes in the second half. Zamora CF had more order and their initial push was enough to secure the victory.

Deportivo have now lost two straight games and is now five points under leaders Unionistas de Salamanca. Los Blanquiazules aren’t yet out of the first three places only because the other games were postponed. The next game, which is the start of the second round, is the visit to Salamanca CF (Sunday, 16h00 CET).
