PREVIEW: LANGREO – DEPORTIVO (LIGA)

11 Apr 2021
De La Barrera is ready to return to the lineup that defeated Celta B. UP Langreo are trying to bounce back after a disappointing ending in the first round.

Referee: Alberto Fuente Martín
Kick-off: 17h00 CET (Nuevo Ganzábal stadium)

STATISTICS: SOLID AT HOME
Last season, UP Langreo had a poor start in liga losing three of their first four home games, but since then things have improved. Since that moment he Asturian team has only lost twice at the Nuevo Ganzábal stadium and its artificial turf, and only one of those defeats occurred on this season, and it occurred welcoming the most regular team in group 1, Burgos CF (1-2, January 31).

Meanwhile, Deportivo will arrive to the meeting after chaining four straight victories. The last time the Galician team chained five straight wins was at the beginning of 2020 when Fernando Vázquez added consecutive victories at Segunda División facing Racing Santander, Cádiz CF, Albacete Balompié, UD Las Palmas and AD Alcorcón.

This is the seventh visit of Deportivo to UP Langreo playing for a league competition, the previous six opportunities took place during the 1960’s and the 1980’s. Those games were played at the Ganzábal stadium, which was reinaugurated in 2006 with its new artificial turf.  Depor won 3 of the 6 games played there, including the last one, a trilling 3-4 victory. The locals were winning 2-1 by minute 69, then José Luis Vara scored a hat-trick within the last 20 minutes.

DEPORTIVO: RECOVERING THE LINEUP
Coach Rubén De La Barrera is ready to return to the lineup that defeated Celta B, this since Uche Agbo is retuning after a suspension. This will push Rai Nascimento into the trident in attack, but a change it’s expected: the left-back position. Héctor Hernández is available, but he doesn’t seems ready to play a full match. The coach didn’t clarify who is going to play there, but the most probable thing is to see Salva Ruiz covering the spot.

Team news: De La Barrera picked the twenty players available at the first team. Borja Galán is put after suffering a muscle injury during Thursday’s training session. The other player at the injury room is Derik Osede.

Man to watch: Midfielder Diego Villares. The most active player among the ones that arrived in the winter window is now an important piece in the new scheme of De La Barrera. And this game promises to be a new challenge for him as the artificial grass can be a factory in the game. Villares needs to control it in order to guide Depor to a positive result.

Picked players: (20) Carlos Abad, Lucho García (goalkeepers); Eneko Bóveda, Jorge Valín, Borja Granero, Mujaid Sadick, Salva Ruiz, Héctor Hernández (defenders); Álex Bergantiños, Celso Borges, Uche Agbo, Yago Gandoy, Diego Villares, Keko Gontán, Nacho González, José Lara (midfielders); Miku, Raí Nascimento, Rayco Rodríguez & Claudio Beauvue (attackers).

Predicted lineup: (4-3-3) Lucho García – Bóveda, Mujaid, Borja Granero, Salva Ruiz – Villares, Álex Bergantiños, Uche Agbo – Keko Gontán, Miku, Rai.

LANGREO: TRYING TO REGAIN THE FORM
UP Langreo started the season in a strong way, they added 10 of the first 12 points in dispute and, like the case of Deportivo, they were at the top and dreaming with the promotion. But like the Galicians they entered a long depression period that pulled them out of the first three positions. A lot of this had to do with the fact of losing two key players during the winter window: defender Davo Fernández (signed by Atlético Madrid) and striker Francisco Panadero (signed by Levante). They barely entered the intermediate league and now they are trying to bounce back, but it will be difficult as they are five points under the second place. The instability might cost them the demotion to the fourth tier.

Team news: The club didn’t release the roster for the game, so it isn’t clear if right-back Miguel Santos, midfielder Xurde Menéndez and striker Victor de Baunbag could be available for the game. But right-back Cristian Ferreiro is going directly into the starting eleven after skipping the last game due to suspension.

Man to watch: Winger Calvin Ketu. The Cameroonian player is one of the few players that has shown some consistency throughout the season. He can play at both sides and is the top scorer at the team with six goals added to his tally, he has also provided two assists.

Picked players: To be released until Sunday.

Predicted lineup: (4-3-3) Adrián Torre - Ferreiro, Alaín, Gonzalo, Cristian – Álvaro Muñiz, Marenyá, Jorge Hernández - David Iglesias, Allyson, Ketu.
