THE NEAR FUTURE FOR DEPORTIVO

06 May 2021
The club is pending to renew De La Barrera and Richard Barral. Technical secretariat Adolfo Serrano is leaving and Mujaid has an offer from Schalke 04.

The permanence at Primera RFEF was confirmed last Sunday and there’s already some information about what the club will do ahead of next season. At the start of the week, Sportpaper Deporte Campeón reported that the club will try to renew coach Rubén De La Barrera and sporting director Richard Barral.

And Radio Cadena Cope reported on Wednesday that Deportivo had already presented an offer to De La Barrera. The offer is for one season plus the option of two more campaigns in case of securing the promotion to Segunda A.

Meanwhile, Richard Barral has been under fire after the big failure of not conquering the promotion back to Segunda A. Deportivo spent €6.6 million in the first team, the higher amount among the 102 clubs competing at Segunda División B and Depor were not even able to reach the playoff stage.

The continuity of Barral doesn’t mean that he will have the same functions, it is speculated that he will have less power at the moment of deciding signings, while the role of the coach will be higher as he will have the right to choose players.

Who won’t continue at Deportivo is Adolfo Serrano. According to Radio Marca, the current technical secretariat will be the new sporting director of Albacete Balompié, club that’s currently the last place at Segunda A and that will probably be a direct rival of Deportivo on next season.

About the future of the current squad, 18 of the 22 players at the first team have a contract for next year. The six men ending their link with Depor are Derik Osede Celso Borges, José Lara, Raí Nascimento, Rayco Rodríguez and Miku.

But it doesn’t mean that the new squad will have a large part of the current team; last week, president Antonio Couceiro told to reporters that the club cannot afford to invest again €6.6 million and that changes are needed; actually Depor’s boss admitted that some players have already requested the possibility of leaving.

One of the players at the door out is Mujaid Sadick. Sportpaper AS reported on Wednesday that FC Schalke 04 are in negotiations with Deportivo and that they are ready to pay €2 million euros. “The Miners” are currently playing at the Bundesliga, but they will surely be demoted to 2. Bundesliga ahead of next season.

There are also the cases of Diego Rolan and Fede Cartabia, both players are still part of Depor’s assets as they are currently on loan, but the club will probably try to sell them again as their wages are considered to be too expensive for the reality of the club.
