LOTINA AND JIMENEZ

29 Feb 2008
Lotina and Jimnez are living a good moment with their current teams, they are arriving to the Riazor after a victory in la liga and they want to continue in the same path. Lotina explained the casualties in the squad after Friday's training, while Sevilla's trainer was affirming that Riazor's confrontation was the most important thing passing trough his mind at this moment.

Manuel Jimnez Jimnez is a 44-year-old coach that spent the previous seven years working with Sevilla Atltico (Sevilla B), team that he promoted to Segunda Divisin during the past campaign, he was chosen to replace Juande Ramos when the Castilla-La Mancha-born trainer resigned in order to take care of Tottenham Hotspurs. Not everybody was convinced with his arrival for the first squad, but his numbers have been positive. After 18 matches in la liga, he has achieved nine victories while three games ended in a draw. Jimnez has only lose six times in Primera Divisin.

In the matter of fact, the start of the year 2008 has been the best one for Sevilla within the last decade. And its that Jimnez's Sevilla has added 16 of the last 24 points disputed in la liga, while it still alive in the Champions League, the only sparkle is the elimination in copa del rey, although the Andalucian squad never lost against Barcelona (1-1 in the first-leg and 0-0 in the 2nd). During the year 2008, Sevilla has played thirteen games and has only lost three times: 0-2 at Athletic Bilbao (liga), 2-3 at Getafe (liga) and 2-3 at Fenerbahce SK (Champions League). This will be the first confrontation between both coaches.

LOTINA
The Basque coach attended to Abegondo's press room after Friday's training. First to all, Lotina talked about the problem of Verd "He received a blow in the thigh during Wednesday's training. He worked normally, but he wasn't able to change the rhythm during the plays. He said to me that he couldn't play. " After that, Lotina explained the situation with Xisco and Sergio "Xisco told me he had a problem in the abductor -groin strain- while Sergio, who trained today, was having  fever, therefore he still in bed."

Asked by a reporter if Bodipo and Antonio Toms would be starters in the game, the simple response of the coach was a "Yes". Later he explained the path that Depor must follow in order to defeat Sevilla "We need to do the simple tasks in a extraordinary way. We don't need extraordinary things, because if we search this, we will lose, what we need is to accomplish our normal tasks."

Lotina also praised the level of Sevilla "It's a squad designed to be fighting with the biggest clubs, not only in Spain but also in Europe. At the beginning, they faced a lot of problems, but they are advancing in la liga right now, as they showed us on the past Saturday. However, we must believe that we can defeat them and that we can trust in ourselves."

Finally, Lotina explained why he has called Laure for this game, he said the main headache for him are Sevilla's wingers "I am worried about the wingers that are playing in the rival's squad, we will play against a team that attacks pretty well by the wings, and I want to have an specific player for this zone, just in case we have a problem during the game."

JIMENEZ
Manolo Jimnez gave a press conference previously to the trip to La Corua. Sevilla's coach was assuring his team needs to focus its efforts in Deportivo and not in the upcoming clash for the Champions League "This is the most important match for us, there's nothing more. We will have time to think of Fenerbahe. We are travelling with the idea of doing the right things in order to obtain three points that will benefit us, but we'll have to work hard if we want to extract something positive from the Riazor."

The Arahal-born coach explained the reasons why Dragutinovic and Escud are out of the team, while youngsters Lolo and Crespo were included in the list "Between injuries and been forced to play, Escud is one of the players in the squad with more games, and we had to choose between having him at 100% for one match or not. Drago is not travelling because he still with physical problems. He trained well yesterday, but he was worse today and to force him will mean a big risk to his physical condition. To see both of them staying at home is not because I wanted, but because we need to keep their integrity, it will be too risky to take them on our trip. For me, my youngsters are the best. If we don't have Javi (Navarro), nor Escud, nor Boulahrouz nor Dragutinovic, and if instead we are calling our players at home, there's no problem. We are fortunate for that, besides we are the only team in Spain with a B squad currently playing in Segunda."

Jimnez was asked if he will make rotations in the attacking zone, his response was: "We are thinking about the players that have participated the most. Kanout and Luis (Fabiano) are perfectly fine, highly motivated. Right now, we have to valorise if this motivation will lead them to play against La Corua and yield at 100% against Fenerbahe. The important thing now is La Corua, and we'll put out the most competitive squad without forgiven the calendar that Sevilla still have to face."

It was speculated that Kanout might be reserved for this match since he was facing some physical problems during the week, but Jimnez assured the Mali international is fit to play "Kanout is perfectly, since he came back from the African Cup of Nations, even before, his problems have ended. In fact, he hasn't missed any training and that tells you a lot."
