STRANGE CASE WITH FILIPE LUIS

21 May 2008
Deportivo paid 750.000 as part of the deal signed for Filipe Luis with Uruguayan club Rentistas, the transfer was made before to June 15 and everything was settled for the continuity of the Brazilian left-back at Lotina's squad. But on Saturday it was informed that Rentistas sent back the money to Spain. So far, the club hasn't received any explanation.

The return of Filipe Luis to Deportivo seemed to be a reality after Depor fulfilled the conditions of the buyout clause signed with the Uruguayan club Rentistas F.C. Lendoiro arranged a loan spell with Juan Figger -the owner of Rentistas- during the season 2006/2007. In that opportunity, Depor had a buyout clause over the player for 2 million. For the season 2007/2008, the loan contracted was renewed and this time the buyout clause was raised to 2.2 million.

Deportivo decided to buy the rights over Filipe and arranged with Rentistas to make several payments, as it was agreed, the first payment of 750.000 was made before the deadline (June 15) and the agent of the Brazilian, Herminio Menndez, confirmed that Filipe was signing a four-year contract with Deportivo.

But the surprise emerged on Friday, Depor Sport wrote on its Saturday's edition that Deportivo received back the money previously transferred (750.000). The club hasn't received any explanation and Depor Sport published that despite the confusion, FIFA, Spain's, Uruguay's and Brazil's football federations are aware that Deportivo fulfilled its obligation according to the contract. For the moment, the club will wait for the official explanation of this confusion before taking any decision.

COLOCCINI IN THE 'WISHING LIST' OF THE PREMIERSHIP
It seems the interest of the Premierships clubs in Fabricio Coloccini is rising. According to a report presented by English paper The Sun, West Ham United boss Alan Curbishley is about to join the race with Newcastle United for the signature of the Argentinean defender. The report says that Curbishley sees Coloccini as a ready made replacement for Anton Ferdinand, who is rumoured to be leaving the Boyleyn Ground. Coloccini has been valued by Lendoiro at 15 million (12 million) which would break the club transfer record for The Hammers.
