Squad news

Depor plays today the first match in the Teresa Herrera tournament, the rival is the Mexican club Cruz Azul (Riazor, 20h00). The main problem for Lotina is represented by the casualties at his squad, mostly defenders. For this reason the Basque coach won’t release the list of called players until a couple of hours before the game.

The game with the Mexicans will be useful for Lotina in order to prepare the second-leg in UEFA against Hajduk Split, but the Basque have big difficulties to build a squad due the casualties. Firstly, Aouate, Guardado, De Guzm??n, Omar Bravo, Rochela, Xisco and Fabricio are out since they joined their respective national teams. Meanwhile, Lafita (appendicitis), Pablo Amo and Ze Castro (both muscular problem) are discarded for injury reasons while Lopo (knee) and Manuel Pablo (toe) are doubtful.

This represents huge problems for Lotina since he’s missing almost the entire defence for the confrontation against Cruz Azul, that’s why he will wait until hours before the game to give a list of called players. He hopes that Lopo and Manuel Pablo will be fit for the encounter. Lotina said at Abegondo’s press room that he’s worried for the several casualties ?It isn’t normal to have so many casualties, but we must face the situation.?

Of the defensive line that faced Hajduk Split, only Piscu and Filipe are available, meaning that Lotina might be forced to call players from Fabril. Juanan will be surely called and he can be joined by Sergio Benito. Juanan, who already played the Intertoto cup, talked at Abegondo and gave his impression about Lotina ?He doesn’t talk too much in public, but he’s a coach that’s constantly watching the youth system. Since he arrived to Depor, he never stops promoting players to the first team.?

Meanwhile, Cruz Azul arrived with a complete squad, only Gerardo Torrado stayed in Mexico in order to join the national team, meaning coach Benjam?n Galindo could present the same squad they are using in the Mexican league. Cruz Azul is currently third in the general table with seven points after four games (two wins, one draw and one defeat). The main references in the squad are Uruguayan Nicol??s Ignacio Vigneri and Paraguayan Christian Riveros, both have scored two games in Torneo Apertura 2008.

C?sar Villaluz, one of the players that was released by Mexico’s national team, said at Abegondo that’s he’s willing to play against Depor ?Yes, I’m content and working. We want to play a good tournament. The rival is strong and possesses good players and we only need to be focused in what they can do. We must fulfill the game we have practices during the trainings.?
