Lotina faces one of his preferred teams as he hasn’t lost against Betis in his last nine confrontations against the Andalusians. Depor’s coach was invoking the spirit of Superdepor in order to reach Europe, while Chaparro is not afraid of a possible destitution.

Francisco Chaparro worked before with ?‰cija CF, Granada CF, Isla Cristina and X?©rez CD. Then he became the 'miracle man' at Betis after surprisingly replaced Luis Fern??ndez for the last matchday of the season 2006/2007. At the time Betis was close to end in Segunda, but two goals from Ed?? within the last eleven minutes of the encounter against Racing Santander secured the permanence. He was then replaced by H?©ctor C??per at the beginning of the past season and returned for the final 24 matches on the campaign, moment in which he saved, again, the Andalusian squad from the abysm.

This is the third confrontation of Chaparro against Miguel Angel Lotina, the previous two were played at the Luis de Lopera stadium and both games were won by the Basque manager. The first one on February 2nd, 2008, day in which Deportivo defeated Betis with a 1-0 score. Then the match of the first round as Depor won with a 3-0 score.

Also, there are a couple of numbers to take in mind for the game. Firstly, this is the match number 66 for Lotina as a Depor’s coach in la liga. This means he is surpassing the mark of John Benjamin Toshack. Now, there are only four previous coaches with a better mark than the Basque: Chacho (70), Joaqu?n Caparr??s (76), Arsenio Iglesias (190) and Javier Irureta (266). If Lotina completes the season with Depor, he will pass Chacho and Caparr??s, therefore he will become the third coach in the history of Depor will more games at Primera Divisi??n.

Secondly, Real Betis hasn’t defeated a team coached by Lotina within the last nine confrontations. Globally, Lotina has faced Betis in 14 opportunities and has claimed the victory in 7 matches. But the fact is that the Basque manager haven’t lost against Betis since his Celta lost at Bala?dos during the season 2003/2004 (0-2). Besides, the teams of Lotina’s haven’t leaked a single goal against Betis in the last seven meetings, three of those matches with Depor (two 1-0 wins on the past season, plus the 3-0 victory of the first round).

Depor’s coach talked on Saturday at Abegondo’s press room. He started explaining why Riki missed the last training, We have nineteen players fit and that’s why we all are going to the game. The issue of Riki is with his wife, who’s at the hospital because they will have family today, we have talked to him and he will join the team in the evening, we told him to be quiet."

Then he had a few words for Betis, the rival for Sunday, "Betis is a team that nobody thought it was going to be down there fighting for the salvation. They are a team that has much offensive power; in the individual aspect they are very good and fast. Playing outside home is when they face a lower pressure, but we have no fear."

Once again the Basque coach insisted about the European goal for the season, "The changing room knows that this is an important match, the points are crucial and we want to continue fighting for the upper zone. It's fine to say we aspire to the UEFA Cup and Europe, but we must prove it on the field, the squad is conscious about this."

Finally, Lotina was trying to invoke the spirit of â€?Superdepor’, something that in his opinion, it would be very important in order to end in Europe, "As a Pe?±a member was telling me during the last night: this is the time to be the Superdepor. We can not match them in terms of budget, the squad or the coach they had, but we can have the same intensity and desire."

Betis’ coach gave a press conference on Saturday, just before the trip to La Coru?±a. The first thing he said is that he is not worried about a possible destitution if he loses against Depor, â€?My job on gambling? If I would have that feeling, I would have it since six months ago. I am the coach of Betis and what I want is to defeat Deportivo. Whatever has to happen, will happen."

Later he explained the cases of Mark Gonz??lez and Ed??, "Mark Gonzalez is recovered. Edu is there, and he has trained during this week. It’s sure he will be fit for the day of Numancia." Chaparro also assured the players are willful despite recent results, We are at the peak of our spirit. We have prepared very hard the week and hopefully we will get a positive result. "

No matter the poor form of Betis at the Luis De Lopera, the Andalusian manager was confessing he would prefer to play the encounter at home, "The ideal thing for all the teams is to play at home and win, but it isn’t going well. I would rather play at home, but we have to go to La Coru?±a.â€?

Chaparro was also admitting that he committed an error when he faced a fan during an incident that took place early in the week at the training pitch, "The first day of the training, we committed the mistake of answering him. He was just a young guy who was saying things. We were wrong, but I stopped the training to talk to him. There was only one hitch. "

Finally, Betis’ coach had a few words for Deportivo, he was trying to explain why Lotina has had so many positive results against his club in recent years, There are circumstances in which there are players who perform better against a certain team compared to others, as coaches that win against some specific clubs, but we hope to change the dynamic. It is a rival that’s very fast, they know how to attack and defend well."
