GOOD DAY FOR THE INTERNATIONAL PLAYERS

29 Mar 2009
Saturday was a good day for Depor’s three international players. Lassad didn’t play with Tunisia, but his team won an important game in the road to South Africa 2010. Meanwhile, Guardado was the best player in Mexico during the home win against Costa Rica, same match in which Omar Bravo scored his second goal in the qualifying process.

Lassad Nouioui couldn’t debut with the national team of Tunisia due to a muscular problem, a latest test made before the game with Kenya determined that the striker was fit to play, but the national coach, Humberto Coelho, decided to not take risks with him and Lassad was not picked in the final list for the encounter.

In the end, Tunisia conquered an important 2-1 win at Nairobi in the opening game of the Africa’s group 2. The favourite team in the group, Nigeria, only drew with Mozambique (0-0), therefore the leader of the group so far is Tunisia. Only the first place of the group (4 participants) will go to next year’s FIFA World Cup. The action in the group will continue until June as Tunisia will host Mozambique.

Meanwhile, Mexico defeated Costa Rica at the always impressive Estadio Azteca (2-0), Andr?©s Guardado was a starter and played for 79 minutes before been replaced. The Mexican media called him the â€?best man of the matchâ€? due to his work on the pitch. He had two chances to score, the first one through a free-kick that went over the crossbar, and in the second half a drilling shot to the far post that the visiting keeper, Ricardo Gonzalez, deflected to corner.

Another starter in that game was Omar Bravo, Depor’s striker currently loaned to Tigres, he also had a good game, actually he was the one that scored the first goal after a good combination with Matias Vuoso, his partner in attack for the match. Bravo received a pass from the Argentine-Mexican and released a shot that Gonzalez couldn’t contain, then Bravo found the rebound at the penalty spot and scored the goal. It is his second goal in the current World Cup qualifiers, the first one was scored against De Guzm??n’s Canada.

Bravo had other two chances to score, both in the second half. The first one after a cross from Fernando Arce at the right, but the striker couldn’t head the ball no matter he was alone at the penalty spot. The second was a shot that he sent from inside the area after a pass from Vuoso, his effort went just close to the far post.

The victory is leaving Mexico with three points after two matchdays, the standings in CONCACAF are really tight with only three points separating the leader United States (4) from last place Honduras (1). Precisely, Mexico visits Tegucigalpa in order to face the Central American nation on Wednesday. Three of six teams are advancing to the World Cup

Other Depor’s player in action during Saturday was Juan Rodr?guez, the midfielder took part of a friendly game at La Rosaleda between ex-Malaga players, the funds were for the benefit of people affected by a recent storm in Andalusia. The final score was 0-0 and 24,000 Euros were recollected.
