Deportivo’s fans don’t keep good memories of Joaquin Caparr??s, but now the Galicians depend of a win by his Athletic Bilbao in order to have a chance to qualify to Europe. Therefore, Depor is again depending on Capa’… at least for one week.

Matchday 37 defined some things in la liga, starting with three facts ahead of the next European season: Sevilla FC will play the Champions League after the victory over Depor (since the group stage), Villarreal will play in Europe and is now only waiting to confirm in which competition, while Valencia FC is now eliminated from the Champions League and only has the chance to qualify to the new Europa League.

Other thing defined in the last weekend was the first two names of the clubs relegated to Segunda Divisi??n: Recreativo Huelva and Numancia. Both lost their games on Saturday and are already out of the race for the permanence.

Now, there are three things that will be decided in the last matchday of the season: which club will clinch the fourth position and the last ticket to the Champions League, which club will end sixth achieving the last ticket to the Europa League, and which club will be the last one relegated to Segunda Divisi??n.

The battle for the permanence is now involving five clubs: Osasuna, Sporting Gij??n, Real Betis, Getafe and Real Valladolid. These five teams are separated by just two points. Osasuna is the team is the worst position; but they depend on themselves since they only need to defeat Real Madrid in the last game of the year. This is possible since Betis and Valladolid are playing against each other and any result in this game is favourable to Osasuna, therefore they only need to focus in defeating the Madrilenians.

And for this reason is possible to say that nothing is for sure, because the five clubs in the fight know that only a victory will certify their permanence at Primera Divisi??n, the only exception is Valladolid, club that only needs a point playing at the Luis De Lopera in order to achieve the goal.

Another interesting fight is the one for the last tickets to Europe. Atletico Madrid just need a draw at home against UD Almeria to certify their presence in the 2009/2010 UEFA Champions League, while Villarreal needs to defeat Mallorca and hope for a win of Almeria, one of the worst visitors in la liga, at the Calder??n.

At least Villarreal already secured their participation in the new Europa League, tournament that’s replacing the UEFA Cup.  Who hasn’t secured yet their participation in Europe is their neighbors, Valencia FC. But for the mission they just need a draw at Mestalla against Athletic Bilbao, while Deportivo will only enter into Europe with a defeat of the Valencians and a victory over Barcelona. Therefore Depor is now depending on Joaquin Caparr??s, the former coach of the Galician team that spent two seasons in La Coru?±a before joining the Basque side.
