The official paper of the club announcement a verbal agreement for Norwegian left-back defender Knut Olav Rindarøy. The player will arrive loaned for one season and with a buyout option.

The quest for the new left-back defender seems to be finally over; on Friday Depor Sport announced that the Galician club has reached an agreement with Molde FK for the loan of Knut Olav Rindarøy (25). The operation is for one year and includes a buyout option, though the player is ending his contract with the Norwegian club at the end of 2011. The amount of the clause wasn’t revealed.

Rindarøy is considered to be a promising defender that already accumulates 109  appearances with Molde since 2004, plus one cap with the national team of Norway. The truth is that several clubs in Europe were chasing the defender and in recent months it was normal too see the scouts following his progress.

At the start of the month, he was followed by German club VfB Stuttgart after scoring a sensational goal in the first-leg match of the  UEFA Europa League third qualifying round (2-2). Before that, in January, he was close to move to Everton FC, but the operation wasn’t materialized after Molde was asking for £1.2million (€1.44 million).

For Deportivo it means the end of a long quest searching for the substitute of Filipe Luis; the first choice of coach Lotina was to sign youngster Murcia’s Sergio Escudero, but in the end he went to Germany (Schalke 04), later the Basque manager was targeting a duo from Barcelona B, Carles Planas and Marc Muniesa. Then veteran defender Claudio Morel appeared in the picture, but Lotina preferred Rindarøy after watching his videos.

If the deal is finally confirmed then Rindarøy will be the first Norwegian to play at Deportivo and the second Scandinavian that arrives to the Riazor after Sweden Christian Wilhelmsson, a winger that left positive sensations in La Coruña.  The deal should be confirmed during the weekend as Lotina wants to have the new left-back defender on Monday in order to prepare the debut in liga against Zaragoza.
