Unlucky derby match for Deportivo B; Ramallo’s boys made a great effort containing the game of the rival, but a last-minute goal and a polemic disallowed goal to Jona caused the defeat.

For the Galician derby coach Tito Ramallo was having the casualties of Richi, Joshua and Andre Andre for injury reasons, while captain Dani was suspended. Also, David Añon wasn’t totally fit and for that reason he started on the bench. Besides, Diego Seoane and Dioni were with the first team for the clash against Osasuna.

In the end Ramallo presented the usual 4-2-3-1 figure though with some novelties and surprises, starting with the fact that left-back Raul started playing at the right side of the defense, while Rochela was one of the pivotes at midfield. Diego Rivas was at the goal, Diego Vieytes and Ínsua were at the centre of the defense, Stopira performed on the left, and Héctor was the other pivote in the formation, Chirri was the right winger, Juan Carlos the playmaker, Luis Angel attacked from the left flank and Jona was the central attacker.

Celta B was coming to the meeting living a sweet moment as it was the leader in group one of Segunda B; the most dangerous combination at their team is the trident Mateo Míguez-Ikechi Anya-Eder Díez, trio that represented 7 of the 13 goals scored by the team before this game, but to mention that coach Milo Abelleira left Basque midfielder Eder Díez sited on the bench.

Despite the differences at the standings and the casualties at the visiting team, Deportivo B deserved more on this game as it planted a tactical battle on the pitch that almost succeeded, and it’s that Ramallo’s team drowned the power of Celta, side that only had a couple of approximations on the first half.

The worst part for Fabril came within the first ten minutes, with a local team that was pressing and trying to score an early goal, Celta B had a couple of chances in this period of time and then José Ignacio Peleteiro ‘Jota’ missed the first big chance of the evening as he sent the ball out after a good pass of Scottish striker Ikechi Anya.

Then Depor started to feel more comfortable on the pitch and closed all the gaps at defense, the fact that allowed this improvement was the tactical modification imposed by Ramallo, because after minute 15 Rochela delayed his position to the centre of the defense, which pulled Vieytes to the right-back position and Raul to the left, the puzzle was completed with the move of Luis Angel to midfield and Stopira was now marking on the left wing.

Indeed, the visitors weren’t creating scoring opportunities, but neither the local were finding the way to unlock the deadlock and reach the goal of Diego Rivas, therefore the last thirty minutes meant a game that was stuck at midfield, and the only chances for Celta B were a couple of headers of defender Carlos David, the most dangerous one deflected by Diego Rivas.

Things were busier during the second part, starting with the fact that Fabril found a couple of holes that could have changed the course of the match, the first one came ten minutes after the kick-off as Juan Carlos stole the ball to Carlos David at the edge of the area, but instead of facing local keeper Sergio Álvarez one-on-one, he decided to assist Chirri at the centre of the box, but three defenders were at the penalty spot and cleared the danger.

Celta B started to react until minute 61 as Ikechi Anya sent a strong shot from the edge of the area, attempt  that Diego Rivas sent to corner-kick. And the biggest chance for Depor B came at minute 71, Jona found the ball at midfield and made a short pass to Juan Carlos, who launched a quick counterattack trough a drilling pass to Chirri to the left, suddenly the winger started to run without any opposition, and before facing keeper Sergio Álvarez he assisted Jona at the centre, and the striker scored from close range. But the goal was disallowed for offside; it was a controversial call as it seemed that the striker was in a legal position as a defender was alongside him when he received the pass.

The pressure of Celta B raised for the final twenty minutes and the locals started to have more opportunities, at minute 73 Jota found a rebound at the edge of the area and attempted with a strong shot, but Diego Rivas made the save, nine minutes before the end Diego was making his most sensational save of the game, it was again Jota who attempted from close range, but the keeper cleared the ball to corner-kick jut when it was searching for the far post.

It was clear that Depor B was losing stamina, that’s why Ramallo sent David Añon and Diego Vela to the pitch as he was trying to refresh the attacking line, but nothing occurred, then he decided to strengthen defense with the entry of central defender Fran Gonzalez for Stopira.

One minute before the end Rivas appeared again to send to corner-kick a header that was about to hit the crossbar, but the luck of the keeper changed in the next play as the corner was sent to the box, Fabril’s defenders couldn’t clear it and defender Carlos David appeared to just push the ball in. There was no time for reaction.

For the second straight time Deportivo B allowed a late goal that’s costing important points to Ramallo’s boys; before the team made a great defensive effort that contained the offensive power of Celta B. To make things worse the referee disallowed a goal that could have changed the game. Now Fabril returns to Abegondo in order to found once again the path to the victory, the rival will be Extremadura (Sunday, 12h00 CET)

Comments of Tito Ramallo: ”I have the feeling that they have taken something for me, again. The team was well placed and neutralized the rival, because Celta B only made some long-range attempts. We know that they are intense on the pitch, and we counteract this fact during the first half. Later, after the break, we had our opportunities. But I want to emphasize the effort of the players in a pitch so difficult like this one.”
