REVIEW: FABRIL 0 – CONQUENSE 1 (SEGUNDA B)

02 Dec 2010
Deportivo B wasted a great chance to increase the difference with the relegation zone and now still living in the danger zone; the performance wasn’t good at all and the visitors deserved the three points

BEFORE THE GAME
Tito Ramallo was still having a long list of casualties at his team, starting with Seoane and Rochela, duo that was picked by the first squad for the trip to Santander, besides Joshua, Richi and Diego Vela were out injured, this last player sustained a hamstring strain injury in the days before the encounter. Captain Dani was also out suspended. At least the coach was recovering top-scorer Dioni, who was returning from the first team.

The used formation was the typical 4-2-3-1; with Diego Rivas at the goal; Fran González was performing at the right-back position, Stopira was covering the left side, while Ínsua and Diego Vieytes were the central defenders. Juvenil A player Fernando and Héctor were the two pivotes, Chirri appeared on the right wing, Añon was on the left flank, Juan Carlos was the playmaker and Dioni the central attacker.

The rival was UB Conquense, a team from the city of Cuenca (Valladolid) that is trying to survive at Segunda B. The team coached by José Eloy Jiménez arrived to Abegondo with only one away win on the season (2-1 at Guadalajara, matchday 03). The top-scorer at the team was midfielder Gerardo García Berodia with five goals added to his tally, while the familiar face at that team was ex-Fabril Juan Antonio Pedre ‘Juachi’, who played as the left winger.

THE MATCH
Deportivo B was coming to this match after living a positive streak of four games without losing; everybody was waiting to see the continuity of this streak, but in the end the match turned to be as darker for Fabril as the evening was. And it’s that the match was played at 5PM, but the weather made it look as it was played at midnight.

It seemed that Ramallo’s boys were going out for everything, because at minute 3, Dioni and Chirri combined to score a goal that was invalidated for offside, later the winger had to left the match due to thigh problem that will keep him at bay until next year. He was replaced by Luis Ángel.

But that play was just a mirage, because Conquense was a hurricane that passed over Fabril; and it’s that the visitors had countless occasions to take the lead. The first attempts were a header of Diego Garrido after a corner-kick that missed the target, and a shot of Juan Antonio Nevado that was deflected by a defender.

And the clearest opportunity in the half came at minute 37, it was Berodia who sent a shot on goal that was saved by Fran, who was standing at the goal line. Fabril had big problems to pass midfield territory and the only player that was trying to do something was Juan Carlos, who had the last chance of the first part through a shot that was stopped by visiting keeper Eduardo Castro ‘Eduard’

Things were worse for Fabril in the second part, because the team of Tito Ramallo never reached the opposite goal and instead it saw as the rival was harassing its own goal. And it’s that the big hero was Diego Rivas, who stopped a double chance to striker Aday Benitez. At minute 55 it was Berodia the one who missed the target with a header that passed close to the near post of Fabril.

Ramallo was desperate and made two weird changes, first he allowed the entry of Uxio for Juan Carlos and later Raul Garcia replaced Fernando; strange modifications that just made more chaotic the movement of Fabril’s players on the pitch.

The icy for this awful match of Fabril was the play that meant the winning goal for Conquense; Berodia sent a cross from the right and neither Raul, nor Diego Rivas, nor Vieytes were able to clear the danger, and in the end it was Juan Antonio Nevado who found the ball at the box to score the goal pushing the ball to the far post of Fabril’s keeper.

And coming from nowhere Deportivo B even had the big chance to equalize a match that was deserving to lose, it was after defender Juan Bardal collided with Dioni inside the area, the referee whistled the penalty, but Héctor missed the opportunity with a shot that was sent into the body of goalkeeper Eduard ; it end a painful defeat that despite everything it was well deserved.

AFTER THE GAME
Fabril returned to the past and displayed the same poor game of the start on the season; Ramallo’s boys never had the control over the actions and in the end they paid the price. The worst news was the injury of Chirri, who will now miss the remaining games on the year (thigh injury). On Sunday the team will visit Atletico Madrid B, another team that’s fighting to survive at Segunda B (Cerro del Espino, 17h00 CET).

Comments of Tito Ramallo: “It wasn’t our day, truly we didn’t do the right things. Even if we would have scored the penalty the result wouldn’t been fair, because Conquense deserved to win. The team never created any danger and it has been one of our worst matches. We knew they had a team with arguments and resources, and they demonstrated it. We just can think of the next game against Atletico Madrid B.”
