The month of May will see Deportivo fighting for a place in the next UEFA cup. There are three matches left in la liga and the Galicians want to be in Europe for the centenario season, even the Intertoto cup seems interesting at this point. Depor could also be a judge in the relegation zone, the three liga matches of the month will be played against teams trying to secure their place in Primera.

La liga action continues tomorrow, without too much time to analyse the defeat in the derby, Deportivo has to visit RCD Espanyol in an important game for both sides. At this point Depor is in the Intertoto position, while Espanyol is five points away from the relegation zone. A victory for the Catalans combined with a draw or a defeat by Alav?©s will secure them a place in the next Primera season.

But Depor also needs the victory, the negative results of Villarreal, Getafe and Atl?©tico Madrid are maintaining Depor’ Intertoto position, a direct qualification to the UEFA cup seems difficult since Sevilla is four points away and with one game less. But this year the Intertoto is attractive since only one team per county will qualify, this mean that the representative of Spain will only play one round (two games) against an accessible rival. So far Espanyol has only achieved six victories at home while Depor are only one victory away from their record in Primera (9).

The last home match of the season will is on Sunday when Athletic Bilbao visits Riazor. The Basques are only three points away from the relegation zone and a victory is crucial for them. Depor has achieved two wins and one draw in the last three visits of Athletic. The Basques have only won three times this season when they have played away from La Catedral It is the last opportunity for Depor to provide a positive result at the Riazor for the fans.

The final confrontation of the season will be against Alav?©s. The Basques are now in the relegation zone and the match against the Galicians will probably be their last chance to achieve salvation. However, Depor will not be only trying to qualify to Europe, they will be also judging who continues and who goes out of la liga.

Deportivo will play a final game in the middle of the month. It will be a repetition of the derby against Celta. The game is a friendly match that has been arranged in order to help a Galician referee (David P?©rez Alleres). He was forced to retire a couple of years ago since he was suffering a heart problem. The match will help in order to raise funds for him and will also close the present season of Deportivo.

The list of matches of Deportivo during May is:

03 May - Espanyol Vs Deportivo (Liga)
07 May - Deportivo Vs Athletic (Liga)
14 May - Alav?©s Vs Deportivo (Liga)
16 May - Deportivo Vs Celta (friendly)
