PREVIEW: ESPANYOL - DEPORTIVO (LA LIGA 20h00)

02 May 2006
Deportivo visits Espanyol today with the mission of maintaining the Intertoto place. Once again coach Caparr??s has several troubles in the defensive zone due to injuries and suspensions. In the other way, The Catalans could secure their spot in Primera if they achieve the win, and if C??diz or Alav?s fail to conquer the three points.

DEPORTIVO: MORE WORRIES IN DEFENCE
Caparr??s continues to have problems in his defensive zone, Coloccini is suspended while C?sar and Juanma are suffering muscular problems. This will cause a new modification in the centre with the presence of the duo H?ctor-Romero covering those spots. Manuel Pablo returns to play on the right side and Capdevila will continue on the left. It's the fifth consecutive occasion in which the Sevillan trainer has to modify his team for injury reasons and suspensions.

In midfield there will be another absence: Aldo Duscher. He accumulated five yellow cards with the one he saw in the derby with Celta. For that reason De Guzm??n will probable returns in order to play with Sergio on the pivote functions. V?ctor will perform on the right wing and Munitis on the left. Iago and Arizmendi will be once again the offensive couple of Caparr??s.

The rest of the men called up by the Sevillan coach are: Chapi, Iv??n Carril, Dani Mallo, Trist??n, Gallardo, 'Toro' Acu?a and Rub?n Castro. The Galician youngster Chapi has been called for the second time on this season, he is a central defender and was previously called for the home game against Racing Santander.

Sergio has started to do his mathematics calculations, he assured that the Intertoto will be a positive way to reach the UEFA cup: "If we can end in the seventh spot instead of the eighth, it will be much better, and if we can end in the sixth place, it will be sensational. It's clear that the Intertoto is more attractive this time, because it only mean one eliminatory, and maybe is a good choice that we can reach."

The Catalan also talked about the situation that his former club is leaving in la liga: "Espanyol's players are conscious that they are almost saved, although it isn't a mathematical fact. For that reason and in order to have more serenity, they will try to achieve the three points against us, but we also want the same."

ESPANYOL: TRYING TO SECURE THE CATEGORY
After the copa title achieved a couple of weeks ago, the Catalans are now trying to maintain the category, they only need one more victory and to see C??diz and Alav?s failing to achieve the three points in their matches. For that reason the club's officials are hoping to see a nice attending to the stadium, they are offering one free ticket to each socio of the club and any additional ticket is only costing €5.

One of the things that has called the attention in the media is the poor defensive work of Espanyol during the second round. The Catalans have received 29 goals in 16 matches, meaning that they are the second worst team in this department, only M??laga has a worst number (31).

The big novelty for coach Miguel Angel Lotina is Pablo Zabaleta, the Argentinean returns after been suspended and his participation in the starting eleven is very probable. The absences will be Jarque, Kameni, Fredson and probably Iv??n De La Pe?a. Jarque was sent off in the last game while Kameni has problems in his back. Fredson is a last minute casulty for a knee injury and De La Pe?a has muscular troubles, but his participation in the game will be decided until the last second, although it seems that he won't be ready to face the Galicians.
