Depor Sport has announced the four targets that Deportivo is chasing in order to cover the role of top goal-scorer; one of them is ending contract and the other three would have to arrive in a loan operation.

It is now a tradition to see the official paper of the club, Depor Sport, publishing a short list of candidates in order to reinforce the striking zone. This time the choices are four attackers that have plenty of experience at Segunda División and that usually are among the top scorer in the league. According to Depor Sport, one of them will be the chosen one that will join the club during the summer.

The first man in the list is José Verdú Nicolás, 'Toché', he is a Murcian attacker that has played before for Atletico Madrid, Hércules, Numancia and Albacete; he never had solid numbers on those teams, but everything changed as soon as he joined Cartagena on the season 2009/10; and it’s that in the last two Segunda seasons he has scored 36 goals in 73 matches. He is 28 and is ending contract in June, therefore is the favourite candidate as Depor doesn’t have to pay for his services.

The second name on the list is a familiar face: ‘Xisco’ Jiménez Tejada. He left a positive impression on the season that has just ended after joining the club in January; the Majorcan attacker scored twice and always liked the fans. He cried the day of the relegation and won’t have any problem to continue at Deportivo and help to achieve the promotion. The problem is that the ex-Fabril attacker still has two years of contract with Newcastle United, and the only way to keep him is to see The Magpies allowing a new loan operation.

Alexandre Geijo Pazos is the third name on the list, he is 28 and was born in Switzerland; he belongs to Italian club Udinese Calcio and has spent the last decade alternating between Primera and Segunda División; he is the classical striker that scores a lot of goals at Segunda, but that fails at Primera. On the current Segunda campaign the Swiss player is performing for Granada and has scored 24 goals in 34 matches. Depor would have to negotiate a loan deal, the problem is that Udinese and Granada are allies as several players from the Italian club play there, and it is improbable that they will reinforce a direct rival, mainly if Granada doesn’t achieve the promotion.

The other candidate is Jonathan Soriano Casas; he is 24 and was born in Barcelona. His case is weird, he started his career at RCD Espanyol and gave a big step forward after gaining a spot at the Catalan club during the season 2008/09, but then he went to Albacete at Segunda and suddenly he joined Barcelona B for the past season, and there the Catalan attacker exploded as he scored 49 goals in 68 matches. It’s clear that he doesn’t have a spot at the first team of Barca, and the Catalans are open to allow his exit, but they are several clubs at Primera interested in him and his arrival to Depor is improbable.

As it was said before, Toché seems to be the main candidate as he is the only one ending contract in June, but the choice of Xisco shouldn’t be discarded as he feels involved with the club. It calls the attention the fact that Nino isn’t part of the list, an striker that seemed to be the first option after the arrival of new coach José Luis Oltra.
