Deportivo will face UD Levante in the last-32 round of Copa Del Rey; the first-leg will be played at the Riazor on December 13; the second-leg will be played one week later at the Ciutat de Valencia.

The draw for the last-32 round in Copa Del Rey took place in Madrid during Friday’s noon; Deportivo will face UD Levante in a two-leg series; the first match will be played at the Riazor on December 13; and the second-leg will be disputed at the Ciutat de Valencia on December 21; it will be the last official game of Depor in 2011.

Levante is the current surprise at Primera División; the Valencians are currently tied with FC Barcelona at the top of the standings and are one of the three teams at the elite that haven’t lost yet after six presentations. The team is coached by Juan Ignacio Martínez and one of the players at the squad is Gustavo Munúa, the former keeper of Deportivo.

After the result of the draw was known, José Luis Oltra, former player and coach of Levante, commented that, “It´s a  team of Primera that’s one of the current leaders; I know them pretty well as I was a coach and a player of that team; I will try to pass the round and offer a good impression. We will try to pass and we should understand that, despite things seems equal, Levante is the favourite side in this tie.”

At Levante, coach Juan Ignacio Martínez said that, “Deportivo is another Primera club, they just went down due to the circumstances. What’s real is that the tie is competitive and we just hope that Levante will go through.”

It’s the fifth time in which Depor faces Levante playing for Copa Del Rey; the good thing is that the Galicians have won three of the four previous series; the first meeting took place in the first round of the season 1932/33 as Depor passed the test with a 7-4 aggregate score, which included a 7-1 win at the Riazor; that was the 6th largest win for Deportivo in the history of Copa Del Rey.

Then, both teams collided again for the season 1960/61, again for the first round in the competition and again Depor qualified, this time with a 6-4 aggregate score. Two seasons later Depor met Levante for the second round in Copa, this time the Valencians achieved the pass and it was a tough series, because each side won one of the legs with a 1-0 score, and it was necessary a third game that was played in Madrid and that was won by Levante (3-1).

And the last meeting between these two clubs playing in this competition took place on the season 1990/91; Levante won the first-leg with a narrow 2-1 score, and Depor decided the things at the Riazor with a convincing 5-1 result.
