THE FIFTEEN MEN OF MENDES

03 Jul 2012
Depor Sport wrote a list of fifteen players that are controlled by Jorge Mendes and Gestifute; not all of them are real targets, but it could give some clues of the players that Deportivo could try to sign in the coming weeks.

The search for new players at Deportivo continues; on Monday Depor Sport printed a list of fifteen players that could be a target for the club as they are managed by Jorge Mendes and his company Gestifute. The major part of them (10) are strikers or central defenders.

The five central defenders listed are Pedro Geromel (26, 1. FC Köln), Daniel Carriço (23, Sporting CP), Sidnei Rechel da Silva (22, SL Benfica), Junior Rodriguez (28, Sporting CP) and Roderick Miranda (21, Servette FC).

Five are the strikers listed: Tiago André Coelho ‘Rabiola’ (22, Feirense), Nelson Oliveira (20, SL Benfica), Alan Osório da Costa Silva (32, SC Braga), Tiago Manuel Dias ‘Bebé’ (21, Beşiktaş JK) and Cícero Semedo (26, Moreirense)

The remaining five players on this list are: left-back defender Tiago Pinto (24, Sporting CP), centre midfielder Custódio Castro (29, Sporting CP) plus left wingers Luís Miguel Afonso ‘Pizzi’ (22, SC Braga), Ukra Monteiro (24, SC Braga) and Vítor  Gomes (29, Rio Ave).

Not all of these players can be considered as real targets, but it should give an idea of the possible reinforcements that could arrive to Deportivo. Jorge Mendes continues to be an important ally for the club as he is now the main provider of Lendoiro, thanks to him the club has hired the only reinforcement signed so far: centre midfielder André Santos, plus the continuity of left winger Diogo Salomão.

The relation of Lendoiro and Jorge Mendes is coming from the foundation of Gestifute, the international agent, now considered as the most powerful one in the world of football and having around 100 players on its lists, entered into the business during the season 1999/00 and precisely his first operation was with Deportivo as he closed the arrival of keeper Nuno to La Coruña coming from Vitoria de Guimaraes; for this reason Lendoiro usually refers to Mendes as the “affiliate”

Gestifute describes itself as a company with a clear goal: the commercial management of the image rights of professional sportsmen. It also supplies marketing and advertising solutions, as well as organising special events and projects. One of its main goals is to associate its players and coaches to highly prestigious international brands.
