Marchena is the seventh signing ahead of the new season; the operation was announced on Monday’s night though he will undergo the medicals on Tuesday’s morning. He’s could be signing a two-year deal and would be presented in the afternoon.

Deportivo has reached an agreement with Carlos Marchena López, the former player of Valencia CF that played for Villarreal CF during the past two seasons; he’s arriving for free after canceling his contract as the yellow submarine suffered the relegation to Segunda División.

The signing was announced on Monday’s night, but the player still has to undergo the medicals. He landed in A Coruña on Monday’s afternoon and, in case of having a positive outcome, then he will be presented during the afternoon. The club hasn’t revealed any information of the terms of the deal, but it’s commented that he´ll sign a two-year contract with Deportivo.

He’s the seventh signing of Depor ahead of the season 2012/13. The first six incorporations were left-back Evaldo, centre back Roderick Miranda, centre midfielders André Santos and Abel Aguilar, left winger Pizzi plus striker Nélson Oliveira.

The arrival of Marchena means to close the defense of Deportivo ahead of the new season; Colotto left the club and David Rochela was loaned out to Racing Santander, inexperienced Roderick Miranda joined the club on the past week, therefore Oltra was looking for some experience in order to join Aythami Artiles and Ze Castro at the centre of the defense.

Hated by many people due to his controversial behavior inside the pitch, the true is that Marchena is a leader inside the locker room and one of the most experiences free agents that can be found at the market. 357 matches at Primera División, 31 appearances at the UEFA Champions League, 69 times international with Spain’s senior squad, those are among the impressive marks of this Andalusian player that can both perform at the centre of the defense or even as a pivote.

Perhaps the biggest doubt is the physical condition of this 33-year-old player, on last season he was only a starter in nine opportunities in liga and failed to help Villarreal CF to achieve the permanence at Liga BBVA. So, the question now is if he’s fit enough to help Deportivo during its returning campaign to Primera.
