The Canarian right-back will complete a last season at Deportivo and later will join the staff of the club. The captain of Deportivo will complete 16 seasons at the Galician team; currently he’s the third player with more official games at the club.

36-year-old Manuel Pablo will sign in the coming days an extension of his contract with Deportivo. It will be a similar deal to Valerón, because the captain of the Blanquiazul team will sign for one additional season plus other four as a club’s official. The player himself confirmed the news during a press conference held at Abegondo.

“We have reached an initial agreement and right now we are only waiting to sign the new deal. Let’s see if we can improve during the training. In the beginning it’s only one more year as a player, but I don’t know what could happen next. We don’t look beyond of what we have signed. It depends on how useful I feel. In the beginning this is what has been signed.” He said.

About his future role inside the club, he commented that, “I will like a bit of everything, but clearly to teach is something I like. I need to learn how to teach, but it will be interesting to teach the kids about what I have learned in all the facets. I’ll try to be useful to the club.”

It’s the fourth renewal for the Canarian player at Depor; the last one occurred days before the relegation on the season 2010/11. Manuel Pablo arrived to Deportivo for the season 1998/99. He was signed together with Argentinean striker ‘Turu’ Flores but more or less was considered a ‘bonus’ in this package deal. The operation cost 1.3 million Euros. He was part of a glorious stage with Irureta that brought four titles to the club: 1 liga, 1 Copa Del Rey and 2 Supercopas.

At the beginning of the past decade he was considered as the best right-back in la liga and was close to be transferred to Real Madrid, but a serious injury in a derby against RC Celta turned to be a setback that blocked his career and reduced his presence at the team. But he was able to return and continued to be a normal starter with both Caparrós and Lotina.

The injuries returned on the past season and he lost the starting spot before Laure, something that has been repeated on this season. Still, Manuel Pablo is currently the third player at the club with more official matches in the history of the club (423), only behind Fran (695) and Mauro Silva (459).
