First movement in the winter market: Roderick Miranda leaves Deportivo La Coruña and returns to SL Benfica. The Portuguese centre-back never impressed in la liga and is returning home by the back door.

It was one of the rumors in recent days and it was confirmed on Saturday by the club: centre-back Roderick Miranda is returning home after just five months in A Coruña. The Portuguese defender arrived at the end of July to A Coruña and was part of the package that also brought striker Nélson Oliveira to Depor; actually both players were presented at the same time (July 31).

The fact of been so young (21) and inexperienced was the main problem why he never succeeded at Depor; coach Oltra tested him during the pre-season and in the end he preferred to rely in more experienced players as Marchena, Ze Castro and Aythami.

In the end Roderick was the fourth centre-back at the team; he only played for 241 liga minutes distributed in 3 games, plus the full 90 minutes of the first-leg in Copa Del Rey against RCD Mallorca. Of the remaining 14 liga encounters he was on the bench in only 5 opportunities, meaning that he was out of the list of picked players in 9 of the 17 liga matches played so far (53% of the total).

Besides, his performance always left big doubts among the fans and the journalists; he was hardly criticized in the 0-6 loss visiting Atletico Madrid; first for his poor performance and later for the fact that he was asking Falcao for his shirt after the final whistle.

However it isn’t Deportivo the side that’s trying to get rid of the player; the true is that SL Benfica s not pleased to see their “future prospect “ without getting minutes and that’s why they were the ones asking for their return, something that Depor is allowing. It is commented that Roderick will spend the rest of the season playing for the B squad of the Portuguese outfit.

The intention of Deportivo is to cover the departure of Roderick with another Portuguese player that’s part of Jorge Mendes’ briefcase, and the best option is Sidnei Rechel da Silva Junior (23), who also belongs to SL Benfica and that’s currently performing for their B squad. But many analysts don’t like this option. Sidnei is considered to be a quality player, but the point is that he’s out of shape. Last season he played loaned at Beşiktaş J.K., but on this campaign he has only completed 9 presentations with Benfica B.
