After several weeks of speculation, the exit of Munitis has been finally confirmed. Coach Caparr??s wanted him for the new season, but the necessity of a new goalkeeper has been more powerful than his continuity. As result of this situation, Munitis arrives to Santander while Aouate comes to La Coru?a.

The courage and spirit that Pedro Munitis puts in every match is a fact without discussion, he has been one of the most important players in Depor's squad during the last two seasons. A probe of this situation are his two consecutive's player of the year awards. Now the Cantabrian winger will end his career in the club in which he started as a professional: Racing Santander.

But there's a sparkle in his brilliant career: Real Madrid. Munitis spent difficult times in the capital and he wasn’t able to shine in a club who are famours for glamorous players instead of combative warriors. Later he arrived to Deportivo as the 'star' signing for the 2003/2004 campaign. In order to obtain his services, president Lendoiro arranged a long-term contract (until 2011) that included one of the highest salaries in the squad (€1.8 million). It was truly a bet of the Depor's president, but coach Irureta had other plans.

During the season 2003/2004, Jabo preferred Luque's skills and Fran's experience. Munitis played only 21 liga matches, mostly as a replacement (he only participated as starter in six occasions). But the situation changed during the following campaign, Fran was near to retirement and Munitis was gieven the opportunity to shine and amazed the fans his sheer determination and demonstrated that he was one of the leaders in the squad. He participated in 36 of the 38 liga matches and everybody was satisfied with his performance although the team still display poor results (8th in the table and eliminated in the 1st round of Champions League).

The past season was considered as a transition year, the arrival of Caparr??s and the absence of new signings weren't obstacles for him. He commanded a squad that eliminated Newcastle United during the semifinals in the Intertoto cup, later he was the leader in the impressive comeback against Barcelona at the Riazor, his marvelous goal in that match will forever live on in the memories of the Deportivo La Coruna faithful fans. But later Pedro seemed to be losing some stamina. His performances were not bad but it wasn't to the standards he had set earlier. It was just gray.

Absences like Andrade and Valer??n complicated the scenario and the team felt from Champions League positions to mid-table. Despite the teams situation, Munitis earnt for the second consecutive occasion the award for player of the year, a tribute made by pe?a members to the best man in the team.

But now the things are changing, the ambitious plan created by Lendoiro needs fresh blood. Promising figures that reacquires opportunities. Caparr??s was hoping to count with Munitis in this new project, but the necessity of a experienced goalkeeper has been more powerful. For that reason Deportivo negotiated with Racing Santander and as result, an exchange for Dudu Aouate was finally arranged. Now, Depor will depend on the experience of other men like Sergio, Valer??n, Andrade or Manuel Pablo. Meanwhile Munitis returns to his home. can only wish upon Pedro for good luck in the future as they have lost one of its favorite players during this new step in his career. Good-bye Pedro!
