REVIEW: FABRIL 2 – CULTURAL AREAS 1 (TERCERA)

04 Sep 2013
Deportivo B are the lonely leader at Tercera División after winning two straight matches in the beginning of the season. The Galicians dominated the whole game against Cultural Areas, but missed to create more scoring opportunities.

BEFORE THE GAME
Coach José Luis Devesa was missing playmaker Bicho and centre-back Uxío Marcos, both were concentrated with the first team, but recovered striker Dani Iglesias for this game. There were some weird things in the 4-2-3-1 formation, more precisely two as Sidibé was still playing as a centre-back, while Ángel Fernández, used to perform as a centre-back or right-back at Juvenil A, was one of the two pivotes.

David Gómez was at the goal, Callón was the right-back defender, Aarón performed on the left and Sidibé joining Enrique Fornos at the centre of the defense. Teles and Ángel were the centre midfielders, Óscar García played on the right wing, Cańi did it on the left, Romay was the playmaker and Dani Iglesias was the central attacker.

The rival was Cultural Areas, a club with the goal of clinching the permanence on this season and that was coming after a 2-3 loss at home during the opening matchday facing Club Rápido de Bouzas. Coach Julio Álvarez-Buylla is having ex-Fabril José Arenas as his team, though he didn’t play the game.

THE MATCH
Boring game at Abegondo; Fabril had the ball possession, but the true is that the local team missed ideas to create problems to visiting goalie Adrián Malvido. Meanwhile, Cultural Areas were putting a lot of pressure at midfield, but practically they didn’t step into the rival’s area during the whole game. For this reason the game was boring, because there were only a few scoring opportunities.

The positive news for Depor B is that they scored early in the first part and it was their main chance during this part. Cańi threw a free-kick at the left corner of the area, his curved shot hit the top-left corner of the crossbar, the ball was cleared and Fornos ended releasing a precise cross from the right wing that Sidibé met at the box, and his crossed header was good enough to send the ball into the back of the net.

Truly that was the only scoring opportunity in the first part, the rest of the time Depor B had the ball possession, but Teles was missing too many passes and only Romay brought some danger, though without finding a proper connection with Dani Iglesias.

The situation didn’t change too much in the second part. Depor B were still having the ball, but without depth. For this reason Devesa ordered the first substitutions Álvaro Queijeiro replaced an erratic Teles, it was an offensive move as Queijeiro is a playmaker with an attacking vision, the idea was to support the work of Romay.

Ironically, Cultural Areas had the next two scoring chances. In the first Ángel lost the ball at midfield and Alberto Suárez trued to surprise David Gómez with a chipping attempt that missed the target (62’).

Three minutes later David Dominguez was close to score in a corner-kick that was saved by Callón at the goal line. The situation was turning complicated for Depor B, but the youngsters stroke again at the precise moment to define the game.

It was a counterattack led by Ángel, he passed the ball to Óscar, who entered the area to end drilling the ball into the path of Dani Iglesias and the striker just had to push the ball in from close range. It’s his first goal on the season.

The goal killed the game and Devesa made the other two substitutions. First Marcos Remeseiro debuted with Fabril claimed the spot of Ángel and later Álex Pérez replaced Óscar. Cultural Areas scored at the last minute of the stoppage time and it was a controversial penalty, because keeper David Gómez never touched striker David Gómez when both were looking for the ball at the edge of the area. The same David scored the goal and there was no time for more.

AFTER THE GAME
Deportivo B didn’t convince in the debut at Abegondo, but at least it clinched the three points before a hard rival that barely created scoring opportunities. The key was to see the youngsters soring the goals at the precise moment. Thanks to this victory the team is the only leader at Tercera as it’s the only outfit that has won the first two games. On Sunday the team visits Arosa SC, club with a strong start as it added 4 of the first 6 points in dispute (A Lomba, 18h30 CET).

Comments of Devesa: “We have a lot to improve. We should have clinched a bigger win as we dominated the full game and, especially, we should have created clearest scoring opportunities. The team has the intention, the boys try to do it, but clearly we are missing fluidity.”
