Winger Antonio Núñez has signed a four-month contract with Deportivo. It’s a petition of Fernando Vázquez and reinforces a position that was weakened after the serious injury suffered by Álvaro Lemos and the departure of Bruno Gama.

Deportivo are moving after the closure of the summer window and reached a deal with Antonio Núñez Tena, a veteran right winger that arrives in order to enlarge the limited number of players at the first team. The club is able to make the signing as the LFP allows hiring free agents at any time of the season and his contract isn’t affecting the salary cap rule. The Madrilenian player ended his contract with SD Huesca in June.

It’s an unusual contract as it’s only lasting four months (ruling out in December 31), though Depor have the option to extend it if the administrators accept it. It was also reported that the player won’t earn any salary, instead the club will only pay some expenses (probably the minimum wage, €60,000). It’s the reason why the Bankruptcy Administration accepted the deal.

His name was linked with the club by Radio Cadena Cope since last week, it’s a petition of coach Fernando Vázquez as he’s trying to reinforce a position that was affected by the departure of Bruno Gama and the serious injury of Álvaro Lemos, who is expected to return in January. It’s also true that Núñez can perform as a playmaker, his usual role at SD Huesca.

The signing was announced on Wednesday during the Copa match against Córdoba CF, on that same night the player landed in A Coruña and in the next morning he made the medicals. He was presented on Thursday’s evening and will join the trainings on Friday.

During the presentation the player commented hid present situation, “I was hoping for a chance as I was training in Madrid with Fuenlabrada. The deadline was over and it was a situation where I was trying to be on shape waiting for a chance like this one. It was better than I thought. Borja and Juan Carlos talked great things of the club. I arrive willing to help and to leave my skin on it.” About Fernando Vázquez he commented that, “I had a pretty relationship with him. I keep good memories and I believe it’s the same with him. For me he’s one of the coaches with whom I enjoyed the most.”

Núñez also commented on what he saw of the young Deportivo that clinched the pass in Copa Del Rey, “I was surprised to see a so young team, and they offered a solid presentation. You can see how quiet there were, something impressive with these young boys.”

With the arrival of the player the first team is now composed by these 18 men:
Keepers: Lux (1) & Fabricio (13)
Defenders: Manuel Pablo (2), Laure (15), Marchena (5), Kaká (23), Luisinho (16) & Seoane (22)
Midfielders: Álex Bergantiños (4), Juan Domínguez (10), Wilk (20) Juan Carlos (25), Núñez (7) & Culio (19)
Attackers: Rudy (8), Arizmendi (11), Luis Fernández (24) & Borja Bastón (9)
