MATCHDAY 09: POOR WEEKEND FOR THE GOALS

19 Oct 2013
It was the worst matchday in terms of goals scored; besides five visitors clinched the three points. Recreativo de Huelva remain on fire and command the league. Depor are in promotion for the second time on the season.

Only eighteen goals were scored in matchday 09 at Segunda División, it’s the lowest number on this season after nine of the twenty-two teams remained scoreless. Another characteristic of the matchday is that five visiting teams clinched the three points, which is the highest number in this start of season.

Recreativo de Huelva remain as the leader in the competition after a 1-2 win visiting last-place Real Madrid Castilla. It’s their sixth straight victory in the competition, meaning a new club’s mark. The Andalusians have now a five-point advantage over the second place, which is now for Real Murcia, side that clinched a 1-0 win over Girona FC.

The situation is pretty thigh between the second and the ninth place as only three points are separating eight teams. Sporting Gijón suffered a new disappointment after they could only get a draw at El Molinón hosting Real Jaén (1-1). The Asturians have now dropped four of the last six points in dispute.

The big winners on the matchdays were Galician clubs CD Lugo and Deportivo; the first team clinched a 1-0 win over Córdoba CF (1-0), meaning their third win in the last four matches; the second got a valuable 0-1 victory visiting Barcelona B. It’s the second time on the season that Los Blanquiazules enter into the promotion zone –they were sixth after matchday 03-

SD Ponferradina were the third place on last week and now they are sixth after losing visiting Real Zaragoza (2-1); the Aragonians are one of the most in-form teams in the league; after a doubtful start they have now won four of the last five games and are out of the promotion seats just be the goal difference rule.

CD Mirandés were the leader after matchday 04, but since then they have only added 4 of the last 15 points in dispute, on this opportunity they suffered a traumatic loss at home hosting Deportivo Alavés (2-3). Another team in a downfall is AD Alcorcón; the Madrilenians were the leader after matchday 03, but since then they only added 4 of the last 18 points; on this opportunity they lost at home facing CD Numancia (0-1). It’s worth mentioning that it was the 8th header goal for Los Numantinos, the higher number on this league.
