MATCHDAY 14: RAIN OF GOALS

20 Nov 2013
The first third part of the Segunda tournament has been played, and the last matchday turned to be the one with more goals. Deportivo are now closer to the first place, Lugo keep fighting and Barcelona B left the pit.

Rain of goals at Liga Adelante. 39 goals were scored in the matchday, the highest number on the tournament. It was possible as only six teams remained scoreless and as there were three games with six goals. It’s possible to start making conclusions as matchday 14 is marking the end of the first third part of the tournament.

Recreativo de Huelva remain as the leaders despite they have only added one of the last nine points in dispute; still the Andalusians should be content as they got a 3-3 draw visiting Deportivo Alavés just when they were 1-3 down at minute 80. Deportivo seized the occasion and once again cut the distance with the leader thanks to their 3-1 win hosting RCD Mallorca. Los Blanquiazules are now only one point below the top and represent the most in-form team in the league with three straight wins.

The other Galician team in the league, CD Lugo, also remains strong and clinched an important 0-2 win visiting SD Ponferradina, which means their sixth straight match unbeaten and to hold on at the third place.  CD Numancia lost the fourth spot as they could only grab a 0-0 draw hosting CD Tenerife –the only goalless game in the matchday- something that was seized by Córdoba CF after their 4-2 win entertaining Hércules CF.

UD Las Palmas also re-entered into the promotion zone thanks to their 3-1 win over CD Mirandés; to highlight the great match of Valerón as he scored his first brace in his career and also provided an assist. The big score of the matchday was the demolishing 6-0 win of SD Eibar over last place Real Madrid Castilla. The Madrilenians allowed six goals in one game for the first time since 1989, while the last time SD Eibar scored six or more goals was in 2001. Real Murcia and Sporting Gijón drew 1-1 and remain at the edge of the promotion zone.
