Disappointing year for Fabril; in the first part the team missed the promotion to Segunda B at the last game; in the second the team had poor results and currently lies closer to relegation than to the first places at Tercera División.

The financial situation has pushed Deportivo to rely in the youngsters coming out from the academy, but the year 2013 turned to be negative for Fabril, perhaps as the consequence of the massive presence of players with the first team during the summer.

Depor B only lost three of the twenty league games disputed at the beginning of the year and as part of the season 2012/13, which lead the team to participate in the promotion playoffs. The team passed the two first rounds thanks to the results achieved in the first-leg disputed in Abegondo.

The problem was the last series facing CD El Palo. Fabril was superior in the first game played at the Riazor, but only clinched a 4-2 result; the returning leg was full of incidents and a goal eight minutes before the final whistle unfairly ended the promotion dreams of the youngsters.

And the current season has been problematic. After nineteen matchdays Fabril have only clinched five victories and only added 23 points which is the worst mark for the team competing at Tercera since the season 2004/05. At the time Depor B ended the season 8th. The team usually has the ball possession during the games, but it also lacks ideas to create scoring opportunities, while the defense is too weak.

With all the difficulties lived during the summer there were nine members of the team training with the first team until the last day, something that forced coach José Luis Devesa to pull players from Juvenil A in order to fill up the gaps. Even for the friendly game visiting Portuguese outfit FC Arouca Devesa and his players had to represent the first team.

All of this caused a distraction and to not have the proper preparation ahead of the Tercera season, besides throughout the campaign the first team has been pulling players from Depor B, affecting the planning of the games. There were even times in which Devesa had to use the maximum of four Juvenil A players during the Tercera matches.

Fernando Vázquez has realized about the situation and during the past week he decided to not call the players for the trainings with the first team, he understands that the best it to see them focused in improving the performance of Fabril.

But this isn’t the only reason for the debacle. Devesa has also failed to find a proper formation for the team. He has tested a 4-2-3-1 draw, a 4-1-4-1 and the 4-4-2, even making strange experiments, like putting a winger to perform as an offensive full-back.

Perhaps the most worrying situation is that some players don’t feel committed to the cause. Devesa stated after the defeat at UD Somozas that ”We have players on here that aren’t coming in order to compete.”. The situation of Iago Beceiro is also mysterious. He’s the top-scorer at the team and barely played at the beginning, apparently for having problems with the coach.

All of this is summing up having an impact in the performance of the team. A lot has to change in 2014 in order to see the team having a more successful run. The team will hardly have the chance to play the playoffs on the current season, but the important thing is to see the players having a more solid performance, a passport that could open the doors of the first team.
