LOPO RETURNS TO DEPORTIVO

31 Jan 2014
The fifth reinforcement in the winter window 2014 is Albert Lopo. The Catalan centre-back signs a contract lasting until June after rescinding with Getafe CF. He will undergo the medicals on Friday.

Albert Lopo rejoins Deportivo after almost three years. The Catalan centre-back is the fifth and last reinforcement for the winter window 2014. He arrives for free after rescinding his contract with Getafe CF. Since Monday his name was linked with the Galician club and it was on Wednesday that it turned to be a fact as he made the announcement on his Instagram page.

The message published by the player was, "Fate was preparing me a new twist and a thorn that was a burden for me. I hope to get it out and help the team to be where it deserves to be, and hopefully change the minds of those who, at the time, were upset by my departure, but I thank fate for allowing me to return to the place where I wanted to be and that I never wanted to leave."

On Thursday the club confirmed the news after the player signed his contract at Plaza de Pontevedra. He will undergo the medicals on Friday and will be later presented. His arrival is taking place after unexpected departure of Brazilian Kaká.

Lopo, who’s currently 33, returns to Deportivo after spending five years in A Coruña (2006-2011). He completed 151 liga appearances with the record of 50 yellow cards. He will now compete with veteran Carlos Marchena and youngster Pablo Insua for a spot at centre of Fernando Vazquez’s defense.
