MATCHDAY 29: ANOTHER NORMAL DAY AT SEGUNDA

11 Mar 2014
Few goals and leaders failing to clinch positive results. Both facts have been the normal thing within the more recent matchdays and it is what happened on the weekend. Combined the first four places only added two points.

The novelty is now a normal thing at Liga Adelante: Few goals scored and failing leaders. After 29 matchdays the average of goals in favour is 25.86 per weekend; and in six of the last eight matchdays the number of goals has been below this mark, which demonstrates that the goal is now a scarce resource. On matchday 29 only 20 goals were scored.

The other tendency is the failures of the leaders, because once again the first places missed a good chance to approach to the promotion. And it’s that the first four places were unable to win their games. SD Eibar only got a goalless draw visiting relegation-troubled AD Alcorcón. The big game of the weekend was third place Sporting Gijón hosting fifth spot CD Numancia and the match ended 2-2 with the Asturians netting a late and doubtful penalty.

Meanwhile, a poor Deportivo were defeated in their visit to CD Mirandés (1-0), while Recreativo de Huelva was defeated by in-form CD Tenerife (1-0). The big winner was UD Las Palmas, the Canarians clinched an important 0-1 victory visiting Córdoba CF. With these results the first six places are the same of the past matchday.

It was possible as even the aspirants to enter into the promotion zone failed during the weekend. RCD Mallorca and Real Zaragoza ended 1-1 and remain the middle of nowhere, while CD Lugo missed a last-minute penalty to end 1-1 before Real Madrid Castilla.

The main news at the drop zone is that CD Mirandés are out of the last four places after defeating Depor. SD Ponferradina are for the first time in relegation after a 0-1 loss visiting Barcelona B. The club from Leon has only added two of the last fifteen points in dispute.

The big score of the weekend was the 4-0 win of CE Sabadell CF hosting Girona FC, result that cost the job to coach Javi López. The Catalans are the bottom club for the second straight week and have suffered three straight losses. Deportivo Alavés remain penultimate after losing against Hércules CF (2-0). The matchday was closed with the 2-0 win of Real Murcia hosting Real Jaén, two clubs that remain at mid-table.

MATCHDAY 30: HOME MATCHES FOR THE LEADERS
The first three places are playing at home, though the games seem to be complicated. Leaders SD Eibar are hosting Hércules CF, an in-form rival that has won three of the last four games. Runners-up Deportivo are entertaining another in-form team: Barcelona B. The Catalan youngsters have won four of the last six matches in the tournament.

Meanwhile, third place Recreativo de Huelva are hosting Real Madrid Castilla; the Madrilenians are still growing in the competition and have only lost three of the last eleven meetings. Then, fourth spot Sporting Gijón are visiting Real Jaén. The Andalusians have lost the last two games, but before they chained a rally of five games without defeats.

The matchday is completed with these games: Deportivo Alavés Vs. CD Mirandés; UD Las Palmas Vs. CE Sabadell CF; SD Ponferradina Vs. Real Zaragoza; Girona FC Vs. Real Murcia; Córdoba CF Vs. CD Lugo; RCD Mallorca Vs. CD Tenerife and CD Numancia Vs. AD Alcorcón.
