Depor’s veterans stated last year that they were no longer going to play in the indoor league, but they are returning for this year’s edition, now with the ‘blessing’ of the new president. They start to compete in April.

On Monday, the club made a symbolic act honoring the veterans of Deportivo. It was made taking advantage that the indoor league already started and that the club was presenting the shirts for the competition, new president Tino Fernández also confirmed that he counts with the former players in order to manage the club.

“The veterans are the heritage of Deportivo. We are content to recruit the veterans, not only to see them playing the indoor league, but also to participate in other aspects, like giving advice, participate in the assemblies and the formation of the academy players. They can do a lot of things for Deportivo.” Fernández told to reporters.

The former players and coaches that were present in the act were: Arsenio Iglesias, Manolete, Luis, Cholo, Bellot, Manjarín, Manuel, Oregui, Ballesta, Piño, Panchito, Piña, Songo'o, Machicha, Carlos Torres, Cayetano, José Ramón, Miguel, Agulló (father and son), César, Chema, Maikel, Jorge González, Luis Gómez, Castro and Sabín Bilbao

Depor’s veteran complained last year of the way the rivals treated them on the pitch and hinted they weren’t going to play anymore, but later changed their mind and are back to compete. The indoor league 2014 is disputed between eight clubs, seven are from Spain and one from Portugal. The participants are: Deportivo, Celta, Real Madrid, Real Valladolid, Atlético Madrid, Valencia RCD Espanyol and FC Porto.

As always, the tournament was divided in two groups in which the first two places qualify to the semifinals. Depor are in the same group with Celta, Porto and Valladolid. The games started on last weekend as Porto bet Valladolid (8-6) with Maniche scoring a hat-trick.

Jacques Songo’o, Manjarín, Jorge Andrade, Enrique Romero and José Ramón are already confirmed as part of the team that will compete on this season. It isn’t clear if Fran will be available, while it isn’t probable that Bebeto and Djalminha will join the team due to their personal compromises.

Calendar in the indoor league:
April 04: FC Porto vs Deportivo La Coruña
April 25: Celta Vigo vs Deportivo La Coruña
May 02: Real Valladolid vs Deportivo La Coruña
