Centre midfielder José Rodríguez is the fourth signing of Deportivo ahead of the season 2014/15. The 19-year-old midfielder lands in A Coruña loaned for one season and with some special clauses in his contract.

José Rodriguez arrived to A Coruña on Monday and one day later he underwent the medicals. He’s the fourth signing of Deportivo for the Primera season 2014/15 after the arrivals of Canella, Cuenca and Lucas Pérez. Despite his age (19) he already played once at Primera and also in the Champions League, plus performing at Segunda within the last two years.

The centre midfielder joins Depor in a one-season loan spell that doesn’t include a buyout option, instead there are special clauses in the deal, starting with the fact that Deportivo will pay less money for the loan according to the number of matches disputed by the player, to the point that the operation can be for free in case of playing a certain number of games. There’s also a clause that prevents his participation in any game against Real Madrid (Depor will have to pay to see him playing).

Before making the medicals, Rodríguez talked to reporters and explained why he decided to join Deportivo, ”I have been competing at Segunda for two years, now Depor is offering me a very good opportunity and I believe I’m ready to play at Primera. Arbeloa said great things of the club. There were many proposals, but this one was the one I liked. Even Ancelotti recommended this option.”

He also explained that he likes to perform as a centre midfielder, “Last season I was playing behind the central attacker, but I prefer to play as a pivote. I believe that with this coach I will play more as a centre midfielder. He told me that he wants me in my natural position and is where I’m going to develop my game.”
