BUSY DAY IN THE OFFICE

15 Aug 2014
Thursday was a busy day for Depor’s officials. The club completed the incorporation of Medunjanin, who signed for three years, while it’s also trying to close the arrival of the striker and even reactivated the negotiations for Zuculini.

The signing of Haris Medunjanin was closed on Thursday. The 29-year-old midfielder rescinded his contract with Turkish club Gaziantepspor and signed a three-year deal with Deportivo. The Bosnian man will join the trainings on Friday and could be debuting on Saturday against SD Ponferradina.

It’s one of many fronts in which Deportivo’s officials are battling in order to close the first team as soon as possible. In the same day it was known that Manchester City had changed their mind regarding Bruno Zuculini. The Argentine centre midfielder was supposed to go out loaned to Sunderland, but the operation was broken and the coaching staff accepted the possibility to loan the player to a foreign club.

So, the contacts with Depor were reactivated and it was informed that the signing was close to be completed. Sportpaper Marca even wrote that the deal was done, however the negotiations are blocked as Manchester City are requesting €600,000 to loan the player (amount that includes the player’s wages).

According to several journalists in A Coruña, Depor presented a counteroffer paying less money, something that was rejected by the Premiership club. What happens is that Depor activated the signing of Medunjanin as soon as they realized that the previous negotiation for Zuculini was over, and  now they found that that both players could be signed, something that stretches the budget.

So, the club decided to close the nearest operation –Medunjanin- and then see if they can get Zuculini, which was the first option, but that now has no longer a spot at Depor’s first team, mainly for the price to pay. It was also reported that Valencia CF could be open to accept the petitions of Manchester City regarding the midfielder.

Also on Thursday, newspaper La Voz de Galicia revealed the names of the four targets for the striking zone: Kostantinos Mitroglou (Greece, 26, Fulham FC), Nikola Kalinić (Croatia, 25, FC Dnipro), Antonio Sanabria (Paraguay, 18, AS Roma) and Nicolás Blandi (Argentina, 24, San Lorenzo).

Previously it was reported that the technical secretariat had chosen four strikers and that on Tuesday coach Víctor Fernández approved the signing of any of these four men. It isn’t clear yet if the club will try to sign one or two new forwards. The only thing reported until now is that Deportivo was already negotiating with Fulham FC for Mitroglou through agent Eugenio Botas.

If that isn’t enough, the club is also searching for one or two centre-backs. Portuguese Henrique Sereno is already a free agent, but hasn’t accepted yet the offer from Deportivo. The other centre-back could be the last signing as the club is pending to get a loaned player from a big club like Atlético Madrid, Liverpool FC or Manchester City FC.
